COUNSELOR’S CORNER: WEEK 10
October 12–16, 2026 | Stay Connected • Make Positive Choices • Keep Growing
We are entering Week 10! As we continue through the second grading period, this is a great opportunity to strengthen academic habits, make positive choices, and take ownership of our success. Remember, small actions every day lead to big improvements!
ACADEMICS – TAKE OWNERSHIP OF YOUR LEARNING
Parent Conferences were last week. Now is the time to put those conversations into action!
- Check Aeries regularly and monitor your grades.
- Review feedback from teachers and identify areas for improvement.
- Use your agenda, Teams, and OneNote to stay organized.
- Complete assignments on time and avoid missing work.
- Ask questions and seek help when you don't understand something.
- Use Paper for free 24/7 tutoring support.
Week 10 Academic Challenge: Choose one class where you want to improve. Set a specific goal and identify two actions you will take this week to reach it.
Remember: Your learning is your responsibility. Take ownership of your success!
PBIS – BE THE REASON SOMEONE HAS A GOOD DAY!
At Woodcrest, we are building a school community where everyone feels respected, included, and connected.
This week, focus on how your actions affect others.
BE RESPECTFUL: Include others, use kind words, and respect differences.
BE RESPONSIBLE: Take ownership of your behavior, follow through on commitments, and make positive choices.
BE SAFE: Think before you act, respect personal boundaries, and help keep our campus safe.
Keep earning PBIS Spirit Points! Students can earn points for positive behavior, attendance, participation, College Day, Spirit Friday, and school activities.
Remember, our Top 125 PBIS reward is something to work toward!
PBIS Challenge: Make a positive difference in someone's day. Invite someone to join your group, encourage a classmate, or thank a staff member.
MENTAL HEALTH & SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SUPPORT – THE POWER OF BELONGING
Did you know? A national CDC study found that 61.5% of high school students reported feeling connected to others at school in 2021.
Students who felt connected to school were less likely to report poor mental health than students who did not feel connected (22% compared with 40.1%). These are national high-school figures, not Woodcrest-specific data.
Feeling connected means knowing that someone cares about you, supports you, and wants you to succeed.
Three Ways to Build Connections:
- Say hello to someone new.
- Participate in a school activity or club.
- Reach out to a trusted adult when you need support.
Remember, you belong at Woodcrest!
Miss Torres and Ms. Morales Garcia are here to support you.
COMMUNITY CONNECTION – GET INVOLVED IN ONTARIO!
TEEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Did you know that Ontario residents and students attending Ontario schools, ages 13–17, can participate in library volunteer opportunities?
Through the Teen Library Advisory Board and Volunteen programs, students can build leadership skills, gain experience, earn community-service hours, and make new connections.
Families can explore these opportunities through Ontario City Library Teen Services.
COMMUNITY CHALLENGE: Try something new! Attend a community program, visit the library, volunteer, or participate in a school activity.
With care,
Miss Torres & Ms. Morales Garcia

Students are welcome to use their own lanyard and badge holder if they prefer. If the school-provided lanyard or badge holder is lost or damaged, families will need to provide a replacement.
Please help your student keep their ID secure and bring it to school each day.
If ID's are forgotten a loaner ID will be provided in the office, if it becomes a pattern parent will be contacted and progressive discipline will be followed.
