AUGUST 8, 2025
A New Year, A New Beginning at Springton Lake
Dear Springton Lake Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year at Springton Lake Middle School! I hope your summer has been both restful and fun. I’m excited to introduce myself as the new principal and to welcome you to an inspiring year of learning and connection.
As proud Springton Lake Spartans, we’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive. This year, we’ll build on our strong traditions while embracing fresh opportunities for growth and discovery.
I’d love to meet you at our Schedule Release Party on Thursday, August 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Stop by to say hello and join a casual meet-and-greet with me and members of the SLMS and RTMSD school community. It’s a great way to connect and start the year together as a Spartan family.
Let’s make this year one to remember. Go Spartans!
Warm regards,
Ryan Buterbaugh
Principal
SCHEDULE RELEASE PARTY
This year's Schedule Release Party will be held on Thursday evening, August 14th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This block-party style event will be held in front of the building and is open to all students and families. This will be the opportunity for students to pick-up their class schedules for the year and to gain early access to the information that everyone wants...
What team am I on??
What teachers will I have??
Which of my friends do I have classes with??
Join us for FUN, FOOD, MUSIC, GAMES, FRIENDS, and...SCHEDULES!! This is a family-friendly event - students should not be dropped-off.
Schedules will go live in HAC on Friday, August 15th and will also be mailed to those who are not able to attend. Please note that schedules will not be available for pick-up for any reason prior to 5:00 PM on August 15th. Packets and schedules will be given to the student/family ONLY - packets may not be picked up by other students for a friend.
SUMMER LEARNING ACTIVITIES READING, MATH, & COMMUNITY SERVICE
As we look ahead to the fall, we are excited to share some summer learning expectations and opportunities with all of our families. These plans have been thoughtfully developed based on valuable feedback from families, as well as collaboration with our faculty. Our goal is to help students stay engaged, inspired, and ready for a successful school year.
1. Summer Reading - Required for all students. Once again this year, students entering grades 6-8 will have a common read as part of our One School, One Book initiative. This year's selection by the faculty is the book Count Me In by Varsha Bajaj. This novel centers around the themes of friendship, resilience, activism, social media, and the power of community.
2. Summer Math - Optional for all students. Students who complete the assignment may fill out the Google form listed below to earn Spartan Bucks for their efforts.
Grade 8 Summer Math - Entering Algebra I - This assignment is strongly recommended.
Online Tutorials for Entering Algebra I Assignment
Google Form - Certification of Completion
3. Summer Community Service - Optional for all students.
Learning can take many different forms. In an effort to encourage students to become involved in their community over the summer, this optional activity is being provided.
Students are encouraged to seek out opportunities to perform service within the community during the summer months. Any service done for others (outside of your own family/household) will be considered an applicable activity.
Students who complete community service may fill out the form below. Students will be recognized with a certificate at the start of the school year and will be rewarded with some bonus Spartan Bucks. Verification of students completing community service will be on the honor system.
Spartan Summer Community Service Award - Bronze Level (at least 5 hours of service)
Spartan Summer Community Service Award - Silver Level (at least 10 hours of service)
Spartan Summer Community Service Award - Gold Level (at least 20 hours of service)
6th GRADE TRANSITION CAMP
An exciting and fun part of the summer for our incoming 6th grade students is Transition Camp. This is a voluntary, half-day program where students can meet members of the Springton Lake Staff, interact with classmates, and engage in a number of activities designed to help orient them to the school and to make them feel even more comfortable and ready for the first day of school.
Transition Camp is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12th and Tuesday, August 19th. The sessions run from 9 AM to 12 PM. The sessions are FREE and attendance is VOLUNTARY. Students may attend ONE SESSION.
Transition Camp is for students only. Parents may attend the initial welcome and overview of the day that will take place in the Auditorium at 9 AM. Registration and check-in begins at 8:40 AM. Gym t-shirts, Chromebook cases, and other spirit wear will also be available for purchase at the event - cash or checks ONLY.
If your child is able to attend, please take a moment to register them so that we may plan accordingly.
TENTATIVE SUPPLY LIST
To assist you in preparing for the first day of school, our staff has compiled a tentative list of supplies that students will need for the school year. While the list is based upon your child's team assignment which will not be known until mid-August, there are many common items that you may wish to gather now. More specific details about supply needs will be shared by our teachers during the opening days of the school year. We hope that this list provides some assistance for those families who may wish to get a head-start on their shopping.
OPEN HOUSE - THURSDAY, AUGUST 28th
Students and parents are invited for an Open House on Thursday, August 28th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This will be an informal opportunity for students and parents to "walk" the class schedule, preview classrooms, and say "hello" to their teachers. Gym t-shirts, Chromebook cases, and other spirit wear will also be available for purchase at the event - cash or checks ONLY.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year is Tuesday, September 2nd. The first day of school at Springton Lake will be for 6th grade students ONLY. This will allow us to devote our complete attention to our newest Spartans and provide them with a day of transition where they have the building to themselves. ALL STUDENTS - grades 6, 7, and 8 - will attend for the first time together on Wednesday, September 3rd.
SCHOOL CALENDAR
For your planning purposes, the Rose Tree Media School District has approved school calendars for the 2025-2026 AND 2026-2027 school years. Those calendars can be ACCESSED HERE. A more specific calendar of activities and events for Springton Lake will be shared in our August communication to families.
