WEST PRESS - AUGUST 2026
Dear West Kelloggsville Families,
Welcome to a new school year at West Kelloggsville Elementary! We hope you had a fun and restful summer and were able to enjoy time together as a family. As we prepare to fill our classrooms and hallways once again, our staff is looking forward to seeing familiar faces, welcoming new families, and kicking off another great year together.
At West Kelloggsville, we want every student to feel welcomed, supported, and excited to come to school each day. A big part of making that happen is the partnership we share with our families. Your involvement, communication, and support make a meaningful difference in your child’s school experience, and we look forward to working alongside you throughout the year.
We are fortunate to be part of such a wonderful school community and are excited for everything this year will bring. There will be plenty of opportunities for learning, growth, new friendships, and memories along the way, and we are grateful to share those moments with our students and families.
We can’t wait to welcome our students back and get the year started. Here’s to another great year of learning, growing, and making memories together!
Welcome back, Rockets! 🚀

DROP OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES
Drop off and pick up are the most chaotic and sometimes dangerous times for a school. Your child's safety is our top priority. Below you will find our morning drop off and our afternoon pick up procedures. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these procedures to make the first day of school a positive experience from start to finish!
Student Drop-Off Procedures
Please enter the parking lot from Magnolia Ave SW. Once you’ve parked or pulled into a safe spot, walk your student to the playground, drop-off marked on the map.
🚫 Do not use or block the bus loop - this area is reserved for buses only.
🚫 Do not park on the grass - help us protect our grounds.
🚫 Do not drop your student off in the Main Office - supervising staff are on the playground and not able to walk your student through the building to the playground.
To ensure safety and a smooth start to the school day:
-
Please arrive with enough time to safely escort your student to the playground.
-
Be mindful of other drivers and pedestrians.
- Follow all posted signage and staff direction.
Student Pick-Up Procedures
Students designated for pick-up will be dismissed at their assigned doors starting at 3:15 PM. Classroom doors will close promptly at 3:20 PM. Any students not picked up by that time will be escorted to the gym for late pickup.
The late pickup location is at the gym doors, located near the front parking lot. These doors will open around 3:22 PM. Late pick-up helps reduce congestion in the main parking area, so if you plan to use this option, please do not arrive before 3:15 PM to avoid blocking traffic.
If you arrive by 3:15 PM, please pick up your student at their designated classroom door to keep the flow of traffic running smoothly.
Late pick-up ends at 3:40 PM. We understand that emergencies can arise; if you are unable to arrive by 3:40, please call the school to let us know. Repeated late pick-ups past 3:40 PM may result in the loss of late pickup privileges.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient dismissal process.
Message from Mr. Wearing
Dear Families,
To allow for a smooth school year, please:
Remember to label all personal items that could be lost, especially backpacks, jackets, hoodies, coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves.
Do not send students to school wearing shoes or boots with laces if they cannot tie laces quickly yet.
Remember to shut the gate and close the latch when entering and exiting the playground.
Be sure to check your child’s backpack each day so you are aware of what is coming from and going to school.
Have positive conversations about what students did in math and reading at school that day.
Be sure your child is reading at least 10-15 minutes each day after school. Interact with them about what they read and ask questions.
Set routines, chores, and expectations at home for the week.
Set limits with technology (time, websites, apps, where, when).
First and foremost is attendance. Please be sure your child is ready to walk into the classroom at 8:25 at the absolute latest, and be prepared for pickup at 3:15.
We appreciate all of your support this school year and thank you for the opportunity to support your child in their personal, social, and academic growth. We look forward to seeing you at Open House very soon!
Mr. Casey Wearing,
Principal at West Kelloggsville Elementary
Mr. Garcia - West Kelloggsville's School Counselor
Mr. Garcia is our school counselor. He is here to support the social, emotional, and personal growth of all West Kelloggsville students. Through individual and small-group support, classroom lessons, and school-wide activities, our counselor helps students build important skills such as problem-solving, managing emotions, building friendships, and making positive choices.
Mr. Garcia also helps lead our Be Nice. and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) programs, which encourage kindness, respect, positive behavior, and a strong sense of belonging throughout our school. Together, these programs help us create a welcoming and supportive environment where every Rocket can learn, grow, and succeed! 🚀

My Child Is Sick. What Do I Do?
Cold and flu season is approaching. West Kelloggsville Elementary is already seeing an influx of illnesses in the classrooms. Please help us stop the spread by following these guidelines.
- Please keep your student home if they have a fever. Students are welcome to return to school once they are fever free without medication for 24 hours
- If you need to call your student in ill, it is helpful if you give a brief list of symptoms, rather than "my student is sick". Reporting symptoms helps us identify possible outbreaks.
- Please keep your student home if they are vomiting or have diarrhea. Students are welcome to return once they are vomit/diarrhea free without the use of medication for 24 hours.
