Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday February 26, 2026
Good evening Glenwood families,
We are flying through the final week of February! Mother Nature hasn’t been very cooperative, bringing plenty of snow and the need for Flexible Instruction Days. Even so, our incredible PTG showed up in full force to support Woody’s Warehouse! It was wonderful to see our students cash in their hard-earned Woody Bucks and enjoy shopping on their own.
I’m hopeful the warmer weather is here to stay. Despite more than 10 inches of snow on Sunday and Monday, we were back outside for recess by Wednesday! Be sure to take advantage of the seasonably warm temperatures this weekend and spend some time outdoors doing something fun. I am hoping to see grass again soon!
Conferences are scheduled for next week. Please check the calendar below for our abbreviated school schedule, and if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher.
Take a look below to see all the exciting happenings at Glenwood!
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal
Read Across America Week 2026 - 3/2 through 3/4
Read Across America Week is just around the corner! We’re excited to celebrate the joy of reading and continue fostering a lifelong love of books in our students. Throughout the week, classrooms will take part in a literacy-themed spirit week, engaging activities, and special “Stop, Drop, and Read” moments built into the day. Our goal is to highlight the importance of reading every single day. We can’t wait to share in the excitement and encourage our Glenwood readers to discover new stories and favorite authors!

Glenwood Happenings
Kindergarten Updates
Kindergarten wrapped up our CKLA Five Senses unit with fun! Students studied each of the five senses through our CKLA read alouds and learned new vocabulary. During our unit, students wrote their names in braille, identified various sounds, played games to guess the object using their sense of touch, identified foods as sweet, sour, salty, or bitter, and even spent time smelling some pleasant and some unpleasant smells! Many thanks to our Kindergarten families for working together to complete the Five Senses homework projects!
Our newest Math focus is on numbers...all the way up to 100! Starting with teen numbers, students are learning how to make groups of ten and use place value to write numbers correctly. Tomorrow, Fri., Feb. 27th, we are celebrating with a special day of fun - all numbers all day!
Safety First
We hold monthly drills to review a variety of scenarios should we experience an emergency. This month, with the help of our local Pennsylvania State Police, we held a lockdown drill. Our Safety Team and PSP Troopers ensured all classrooms were secure and all students and staff followed the procedures. We were able to review any concerns - and are so proud of our students being READY, RESPECTFUL, and RESPONSIBLE during this important practice.
Glenwood - Penncrest Partnership
The program, which originally paired Mrs. Anderson's seniors taking her Child Development class with Mrs. Harkness' kindergarten students, has expanded - and this year was able to include more high school students due to their change in block scheduling.
Since the beginning of the school year, four seniors have been visiting Glenwood every day to work with kindergarten and first grade classes. Starting this week, fifteen seniors have been paired with a variety of grade levels, and will come to Glenwood twice a week to work with the elementary students in their assigned classroom.
Jessica Anderson and Kristin Harkness have created a unique program, allowing our youngest learners to benefit from working with older students. It also gives high school students "hands on" experiences, especially those interested in pursing education.
