Hello, September

While August is often a quieter month at the library, with summer reading wrapped up and kids heading back to school, we’ve been busy behind the scenes preparing for the financial challenges facing our library and others across the country. In this newsletter, you’ll find more about our new foundation, how we’ll keep you connected, and of course, plenty of exciting things ahead including fall-themed programs! Autumn is such a cozy season, and we’ve planned lots for you to enjoy.

The Danville Friends of the Library have adopted new bylaws and will now be doing business as the Danville Library Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to support the Danville-Center Township Public Library through advocacy and fundraising—helping provide programs, resources, and opportunities that enrich our community.

The Foundation encourages community members to get involved in simple but meaningful

ways:

  • Get a library card and use it regularly. Reach out to friends, family, and neighbors to encourage them to get a library card!

  • Contact your representatives and ask them to support public libraries. Visit iga.in.gov/information/find-legislators to find your local representatives.

  • Share your DPL story. Tell us why DPL matters to you or how the library has made a difference in your life. Sign up for a time to share with us why DPL is important to you. These stories are powerful tools in our advocacy efforts. Email csalenda@dplindiana.org to schedule a time to share your story.

  • Attend DPL fundraising events. Keep an eye out for upcoming events!

  • Follow @dplindiana on social media to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, programs, and news.

  • Donate to the Foundation. Every dollar helps - whether you offer a one-time donation or set up a monthly contribution. Just $10/month can help pay for a child to attend storytime.

YA Review - "Falling Like Leaves" by Misty Wilson

Goodreads says "Gilmore Girls meets Jenny Han in this autumnal teen rom-com about a city girl stuck in a quaint small town who must confront her future and her old flame while the town prepares for an annual fall festival."

When Ellis moves from Manhattan to small-town Bramble Falls after her parents’ separation, she expects boredom—not running into Cooper, her former best friend and first kiss. Between her aunt’s autumn festival and unexpected sparks with Cooper, Ellis starts questioning where she truly belongs—and what she really wants for her future.
