AVID & GLAD at Tynes: Leveling Up Learning for Every Tiger

Tiger Families,

At our most recent Coffee with the Principal, we had the opportunity to share how Tynes Elementary is strengthening teaching and learning through our schoolwide implementation of AVID and GLAD ... two powerful instructional approaches used across every grade level, TK through sixth grade, including our special education classrooms. These strategies are not add-ons; they are embedded into daily instruction to ensure every Tiger has access to engaging, high-expectation, and language-rich learning.

Through AVID, students build strong learning habits such as organization, collaboration, goal-setting, and critical thinking. Through GLAD, lessons come to life with visuals, movement, structured academic talk, interactive charts, and writing supports that help all studentsβ€”especially multilingual learnersβ€”access grade-level content with confidence. Walk into any Tynes classroom and you’ll see Tigers explaining their thinking, working together, and taking pride in their learning.

At Tynes, we believe high expectations and meaningful access belong to every child. By implementing AVID and GLAD schoolwide, we are building classrooms where every Tiger feels confident, challenged, supported, and prepared for long-term success. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to Level Up learningβ€”Every Student, Every Day.

Warmly,
Dr. Borgese
Principal
