Gator Parent Newsletter
March 2025
Message from Mr. Barnes
Gator Families
I am hoping that the snow is about to run its course for this winter. We need some consistent full day weeks of school. In addition, we need our students to be healthy. It has been a tough year for illnesses. The flu outbreak has run its course and we are no longer seeing the number of cases that we had previously seen. As a reminder, your child has to be free of fever, vomiting, and/or Diarrhea
for 24 hours to be in school. This will help to reduce the spread of viruses. Also, remind your child to not put anything in their mouths (except food/water) and wash their hands frequently. We have worked hard to disinfect the entire building and are continuing to deep clean classrooms to ensure illnesses are not spread that way.
Please mark your calendar for our March 26th STEAM Night. This will be a great night of fun, family bonding, and learning. More information will be coming home in the near future.
As always, I am here if you have any concerns and/or questions. Please feel free to reach out, 277-203-1520 or troy.barnes@fcps.org.
Take Care

Salad Bar
We will be expanding our lunch options to include a salad bar each day. Students will be able to go through an alternative lunch line and build their own salads. We hope that they enjoy this fresh new option.
5th Grade MiSA
All 5th and 8th grade students in the state of Maryland take part in the MiSA (Maryland Integrated Science Assessment). This assessment is important for our school and measures our progress against other schools in the state. I want our students to simply do the best that they can, take their time, read carefully, and to not stress. Please encourage your child to have a full night rest and arrive to school on time for this assessment.
Front Office Reminders
- If a family has an unexpected financial change, in their income, they can apply for FARM (Free/Reduced Meals) any time throughout the year at https://linqconnect.com/main.
- If at any time during the school year you experience a change of income and would like to fill out an application for Free/Reduced Lunches, please reach out to Mrs. Arnold at andrea.arnold@fcps.org and she will be happy to assist you.
- In order to help get lost coats/jackets back to the students, please practice putting your child's name on an inside tag so they can be returned to them.
- Please refrain from picking up your child from the front office after 3:15. Classes are preparing for dismissal and busses are arriving after 3:15. After that time please use the car rider line, around back, for pick up.
- Dismissal Changes: Please call before 3:00, when possible, to make changes your child's normal dismissal routine.
- Our doors open at 8:45am and students should be in their classroom by 9:15 when the bell rings. Being in the classroom before the bell rings allows the students to prepare themselves for the day, eat breakfast if they choose to and socialize with their classmates.
