MVMS BAND NEWS

NOVEMBER 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

It was so awesome seeing a packed cafeteria at both the Beginner and Advanced Bands Fall concerts. I was so impressed with how our band students performed. The help we received with clean-up after the concerts was unlike anything we have seen before. Thank you so much for that!

November is a special time to give thanks. As our band programs continue to expand, we are seeing a greater need for help with many aspects of our day-to-day activities and with our events. In addition to the help at the fall concert, "Thank You" to those that have helped with transporting the band trailer, with organizing our band hall, and chaperoning the Fair Parade and Peter Piper Pizza. We will need adults to help with the Sattler Christmas parade and Winter Concert as well. Please reach out if you are willing to assist.

HAWK BAND HOODIES

Fall weather=hoodie weather! Get your Hawk Band hoodie before it’s too late!*

PLACE YOUR HOODIE ORDER HERE by 11/19!

Orders must be placed online BEFORE 11:59pm on Sunday, November 19. Free shipping is included when shipped to the school!

*Purchase of a hoodie is optional, but this is the only time they will be available this school year. If you miss this order, you will have to wait until November 2024! Don't miss out!

BAND FUNDRAISER ENDS 11/15

Anyone can post and share the MVMS link without having to sign up for their own personal page. Don't forget to ask your friends, family members, and coworkers to share the link as well!

Thank you to the 96 students that have participated so far and to the 284 supporters that are making our dreams a reality! The profits will directly support our students and the MVMS band program. Let's all make the final push these last three days and help us meet or exceed our goal of $20,000!

December 9 - Winter Concert @ CLHS

Winter Concert Extravaganza

When: Saturday, December 9

Time: Afternoon 1-7pm (exact times for each band to be announced soon)

Who: ALL MVMS band students

Where: CLHS Performing Arts Center

Come out for an entertaining afternoon of joyful holiday music provided by our MVMS Beginner Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Honor Band, and CLHS Bands.

Attire for students is nice, dressy clothes--like you are going to a wedding or to a job interview. School dress code still applies. Festive accessories such as reindeer antlers, Santa hats, etc. are encouraged! More information to come very soon!!!

Canyon Lake Noon Lions Christmas Parade

When: Saturday, December 9 at 11am

Who: 7th and 8th Grade Advanced Band Students

Where: Downtown Sattler (meet at MVMS)

Students will need to report to the band hall earlier that morning. Attire is Hawk Band shirt and blue jeans. If it is cold, students may wear jackets, Hawk Band hoodies, etc. Students may also wear festive accessories such as reindeer antlers, Santa hats, etc. More details to come soon!!!

Region Band Auditions

All 7th and 8th grade advanced band students have the opportunity to audition for the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-Region Band. Making the All-Region Band is the highest honor a middle school band student can achieve. All students across the region prepare the same scales and etudes for their audition. The music is quite challenging but very attainable by those who practice.

All Honor Band students are expected to audition as a requirement of being in the Honor Band. It is the student's responsibility to pass-off their scales and music each week. This may be done before/after school, during Hawk time, or in Flipgrid. Do not rely on class time to get this done!

Symphonic Band students are strongly encouraged to prepare the music for audition. Both Mrs. Conard and Mr. Delgado are available to work with students before/after school and during Hawk time on the music. If you would like the music or would like extra help, please make arrangements with a band director.

Instructional help videos/recordings for all will be posted soon in Google classroom. All scales and music must be passed off by the week of December 11. Auditions are January 20th in LaVernia. Students that make the All-Region band will participate in an all-day clinic and concert January 30th at Davenport HS. Students must be academically eligible to participate (based on the 2nd 9 weeks report card grades).
