LARGO NEWS
Largo's Star Rating Improves with State Department of Education ⭐⭐⭐
Largo High School is proud to share that our Maryland Report Card rating has improved from a two-star to a three-star school. This achievement represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and community partnership. The Maryland School Report Card reflects how well schools are supporting students’ achievement, growth, and readiness for success beyond high school — and this improvement demonstrates the dedication of our entire school community. Largo was last rated a three-star school during the 2018-2019 school year.
Several areas of progress contributed to this accomplishment. We saw increases in academic achievement across both English Language Arts and Mathematics, as student performance and proficiency levels continued to climb. Our graduation rate and college and career readiness indicators also improved, showing that more Largo students are meeting the standards that prepare them for life after high school. Additionally, the report highlights gains in school quality and student success, including improvements in chronic absenteeism, student engagement, and access to a well-rounded curriculum. For students developing English proficiency, progress among our English Learners also positively impacted our overall rating.
This growth is a reflection of the hard work and collective effort of our teachers, staff, students, and families. Moving from a two-star to a three-star rating is more than a number, but it is a testament to the commitment and perseverance of the Largo High School community. It shows that our strategies are working, that our students are rising to higher expectations, and that our shared vision of excellence is being realized in tangible ways.
As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on continued improvement. We will use the Maryland Report Card data to guide our next steps, strengthen areas of need, and continue to build on the progress we have made. Our goal is to ensure that every Largo Lion has the opportunity to thrive academically and personally.

1st Quarter Grades Finalized
The first quarter of the school year concluded on Friday, October 31. We want to congratulate all of our students for successfully completing this important milestone.
We encourage you to review your child’s grades and other success markers, including class and overall attendance, in the ParentView application in Synergy. This is a great way to stay informed about your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements or intervene as needed.
If you notice areas where your child may be struggling or a lack of progress, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher or professional school counselor to set up a parent conference. Working together, we can ensure your child receives the support they need to succeed throughout the year.

Happy Veteran's Day - Largo Community
We pause to honor the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of the men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces. Veterans Day is a time for reflection, gratitude, and recognition of the invaluable contributions made by those who have defended our freedoms.
This year, Veterans Day was observed on Tuesday, November 11th. We hope you take a moment to share the importance of this day with your children, teaching them the value of service and sacrifice.
To all veterans in our community, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your service. Your commitment inspires us and reminds us of the strength and unity that define our country.
Grade Appeals Deadline - November 17
If you wish to request a grade appeal, the process may be initiated by a parent, guardian, or a student who is 18 years or older. Appeals must be submitted within five (5) school days following the release of a quarter or final report card using the official Grade Appeal Form. All appeals must include evidence supporting the request for a grade change.
For the first quarter, all grade appeals must be submitted to your child’s grade-level administrator no later than Friday, November 17, 2025. Please ensure that the form is completed in full and that all supporting documentation is attached to help facilitate the review process. Following a review from the School Intervention Team (SIT), appeals will be reviewed, and a determination will be made about each case. Outcomes from grade appeals are shared with families by the grade level assistant principal.
We encourage families and eligible students to review the guidelines carefully to ensure their appeal meets the required criteria and deadlines. Please see the link below for the PGCPS Grade Appeal Form:
