Dear West Point Families,

Welcome back! We hope you had an enjoyable Spring Break.

Our PTA is holding their annual fundraiser this month which will be a Bubble Fun Run. Please watch the link below to see a fun video from our Student Council that tells more about the fundraiser and the many ways the funds will be used. You can use the QR code below to register your student for this event. PTA Fun Run donations will be collected Monday, April 7 - Thursday, April 17. The Fun Run will be held on Monday, April 21.

It is with mixed emotions that I would like to make you aware of a change for the upcoming school year. I will be retiring at the end of this school year after close to 32 years in education. Mr. Greg Mudrow has been named the new principal for West Point Elementary. Mr. Mudrow is an amazing leader and educator. Our school will be in great hands with Mr. Mudrow and Ms. Bouy, who will continue as our administrative intern.

Here are four important things to know for the coming week.

  1. Decathlon tryouts for 4th-6th grade students are this Friday, April 11 from 1:30 to 2:30 in the gym. Please contact our PE teacher, Charity Julander, for additional information. cjulander@dsdmail.net
  2. Our next PTA meeting is this Friday, April 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the faculty room.
  3. April is the Month of the Military Child. Students are invited to wear purple every Friday (or their school spirit shirt) to honor the unique sacrifices of our military children and families.
  4. Please encourage your students to work on their Excellence Projects for May!

Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!

Sincerely,

Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary

April Brag Tags

April is our last month for students to earn attendance and reading brag tags. Please encourage your students to earn their brag tags this month! Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.

Magical Manners

Our Community Council decided to focus this month's manners on internet safety and etiquette. This week's manner is "Turn it off - and tell an adult." There is a very high likelihood that all students will experience seeing or hearing something online that makes them uncomfortable or doesn't feel right. We want students to know that when this happens, they should 1) quickly turn off the device or turn it over and 2) tell an adult immediately. We want students to know that they have trusted adults who they can go to for help staying safe online.

April's LETTERING Focus - P for Perseverance

This month we are focusing on Perseverance. Perseverance includes working through challenges and not giving up until you meet your goal. Students will have an opportunity to pick a goal for the month of April and identify something they can do each day to achieve that goal. They will be asked to spend 10 minutes/day practicing or working towards their goal. It can be something as simple as reading an extra 10 minutes/day, practicing a musical instrument or a sports skill, etc. Students who complete this challenge will earn their letter P for the month!

Native American Presentation

Thank you to our students and their family members who shared their Native American culture and traditions with classmates as part of their Excellence Project!

Attendance Adds Up

Please be aware of your students' attendance and help them to be at school every day. We understand that students who are sick need to be home. (Please see the above DSD Health Protocol.) However, missing a day of school here and there adds up quickly and puts students behind. Thank you for your support!
