Stewart Parent Star Report
August 21, 2026
Dear Stewart Elementary Community,
Our August focus is Make It Matter: Start Strong. Starting strong does not mean getting every little thing right on the first day. It means beginning with the habits that help students learn, belong, and take care of one another. Our first two days of school were definitely a strong start to the year.
We appreciate everyone who walked to school. It made such a huge difference in the parking lot and on the roads. Please keep it up all school year long. Even when the construction has finished.
Here are the things you need to know for the week.
- Please log into myDSD and make sure that you have signed all available documents.
- You can purchase a yearbook and Device Protection now in myDSD. Device protection is available until September 20.
- Community Council applications are now available. Currently we only have one application and we have 3 open positions. Please email your application to Principal Yoho (mdaly@dsdmail.net) by August 28 at 4pm.
- Stewart Swag shop is now open. All students will be getting a school shirt with this year's theme. But if you want additional swag you can get it at https://offsideapparel.com/stewartelem/shop/home
- Free and Reduced Lunch Applications are now available in myDSD.
- Parents please do not Door Dash your student lunch. We don't know who the delivery is for and neither do the delivery drivers. If your child has not brought a home lunch they are welcome to have a lunch from the cafeteria.
- We are looking for any Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math organizations or businesses that would like to do an activity at our STEAM night on Thursday September 17 from 5-7 pm. Contact Jen Gaerte at jgaerte@dsdmail.net if interested in helping.
Sincerely,
Michelle Yoho and Laura Campbell
Principal and Administrative Intern, Stewart Elementary
Construction Update
As you are aware, there is a significant amount of construction taking place around our school. We have been informed that this work will continue for at least another month. During this time, we are asking for everyone’s cooperation and patience as we work together to keep our students, families, and staff safe while arriving at and leaving school.
Whenever possible, we strongly encourage students to walk to and from school rather than being dropped off or picked up by car.
If driving is necessary, please follow these temporary traffic procedures:
- All vehicles should enter the school parking lot from the north.
- When exiting the parking lot, vehicles must turn south (right turn only). We are unable to accommodate left turns out of the parking lot at this time.
- Please avoid making a left turn from Main Street into the school parking lot. Due to the construction, this will be very difficult and may create significant traffic congestion.
- If you are driving your student and cannot use the designated traffic pattern, please park on a nearby side street or at the LDS Church south of Chase Lane and walk from there using a safe route.
- Students are welcome to use the Kidde Walk in the west of the school (1200 North) to arrive and leave.
These temporary restrictions will be in place for Back-to-School Night as well as the first days of school and will continue as needed during construction.
We know these changes may require some extra time and planning, and we greatly appreciate your patience, cooperation, and flexibility. By following these procedures, we can help reduce congestion and, most importantly, ensure that everyone arrives at and leaves school safely.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe!

Save Your Pull Tabs
Way to go, Stewart Stars! A huge THANK YOU to our amazing Stewart families and students for donating pull tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. Ms Yoho had the opportunity to deliver your generous donation, and they were so grateful for your support!
The pull tabs are recycled, and the recycling company matches the donation to help provide meals and other support for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House during difficult times. This kindness truly makes a difference.
Now let’s set a new goal… Can we fill TWO tubs this year? Keep those pull tabs coming, Stewart Stars! Together, we can Make It Matter!
