News & Notices for Team Tigers - July 2023
From the Superintendent: Welcome Back!
Welcome back to all GCSS teachers and staff! I hope you have had a restful summer and are ready to make this year one of the best ever. I would like to send a special welcome to our new team members. Thank you for choosing to join the GCSS family!
A lot of work has been taking place while our schools have been out of session, and a special thank you needs to go out to our maintenance, custodial, and IT staff for their efforts to make sure we are ready to start the year. Last month, the Board of Education approved a new 5-year Strategic Plan for 2024-2028, which you can view here on our website. Thank you to all of the administrators who served on the goal area working groups to formulate this plan over the 9-month strategic planning process.
Whether you are driving a school bus, providing outreach to parents, maintaining one of our facilities, working in an administrative function, teaching in a classroom, or serving in any one of the many other important capacities in this district, each and every staff member is integral to ensuring that our schools are highly effective centers of learning.
One of our most important goals this year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Chronic absenteeism negatively impacts learning to such a degree that we recognize it as a top priority. Everyone in our school community can make a difference by helping students and families understand that going to school every day is critical to their academic achievement. Teachers can play an especially important role by setting a good example for students by having solid attendance, being on-time to your classrooms or morning duties, and making school fun. We understand that everyone may need to stay home from time to time, due to illness or emergency circumstances, but let’s do our best to be at work as much as possible and set a great example for our students.
I am enthusiastic about the prospects of a successful 2023-2024 school year! It is only by working together that we can continue to build the momentum that will launch the Greene County School System into a new era of possibilities for students, parents, and the entire community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Houston
Superintendent
