Monitoring Hurricane Lowell

Aloha Damien ʻOhana,

Damien Memorial School is closely monitoring Hurricane Lowell and guidance from the National Weather Service. Lowell has made its expected northward turn, with the forecast track remaining west of Kauaʻi. However, uncertainty remains, and conditions may change.

The entire state is under a Flood Watch through Tuesday, with increasing rainfall and the potential for flash flooding. We are also monitoring strong winds and very high surf, particularly along south- and west-facing shores.

At this time, Damien remains OPEN and on its regular schedule. We will continue to monitor conditions and communicate promptly if any changes to school operations are necessary.Families are encouraged to stay informed, review emergency plans, prepare for changing weather conditions, and use caution when traveling. Our DMS Weather Update will have Damien-specific information starting Monday at noon and 8pm.

🙏 We remain prayerful for the safety of our Damien ʻohana and all of Hawaiʻi, and grateful for our first responders and those working to keep our communities safe.

Stay safe, stay prepared, Monarchs!

On August 28, Student Government hosted the first pep rally of the school year, bringing students together for an afternoon filled with laughter, music, and school spirit. Students from each grade level came ready to represent their class and compete in four exciting games.

One of the fan-favorite events was the Kendama Competition, where 8th graders came out on top, earning a point toward Field Day and tying the seniors in the overall competition. The 7th grade also stole the spotlight, earning a point for the majah mana award, demonstrating the most school spirit throughout the rally.

With enthusiastic students, supportive faculty, and the hard work of Student Government, the first assembly was a huge success. As the school year continues, everyone is looking forward to the exciting events and activities still to come!
