From September 5-7, all 1st grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Unlike traditional achievement tests, which measure how well a student has learned the curriculum, the CogAT assesses a child’s ability to reason abstractly and recognize patterns and relationships in the world around them. Teachers can use CogAT scores to better understand a child’s pattern of strengths and weaknesses. Our school district also uses CogAT scores to identify academically-gifted students.

Parents, please review the additional information provided in your child’s classroom newsletter.

Oakhurst's School Leadership Team (SLT) is an important crew that is created and guided by CSD's charter. SLT members - including administrative, staff, parent and community representatives - operate as a governing body with the purpose of maximizing school-level decisions. Parent representatives are an elected position and serve two-year terms. There will be two open parent seats this Fall; the form to submit your name will close at 4:00pm on Monday, 8/26.

The most important requirement of an SLT member is to have an honest desire to contribute to the educational experience and learning of all children at Oakhurst Elementary. We hope you will consider being a part of this very important work! Those interested should complete this form along with a short bio to add to our voting form. Thank you for your support!

Feel free to contact any of our current parent representatives with questions or for further information: (Parent)- Teri Brouchard teri.bouchard@csdecatur.net and Jeff Carter (Parent) - James Huffman james.huffman@csdecatur.net.

This form will not be sent home again at any time this year. You may print one at the link below. This form must be submitted, along with payment, by TOMORROW Friday, August 23.

July and August birthdays will be celebrated in September and June birthdays will be celebrated in May.
