SEMESTER 1 FINALS
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Mitchell High School Families,
I hope your Thanksgiving holiday was safe, pleasant, and filled with rest, recreation, and rejuvenation. These moments of renewal are essential as we re-engage in instruction and learning and work together to finish the first semester and 2025 with great momentum.
With only three weeks remaining until winter break, it is important to make each day count as we look forward to the weeks ahead. During the week of December 1, we will focus on STAR Benchmark Testing. In the week of December 15, we will administer the Semester 1 Final Tests. It is important to remember that semester grades are recorded on high school transcripts and directly reflect each student's official grade point average (GPA), making strong performance essential.
As we enter this week, I cannot stress enough about the importance of students developing strong reading, writing, and math skills. Strong literacy and math skills are the foundation for lifelong success. They open doors academically by supporting comprehension, problem-solving, and higher achievement, which leads to better graduation rates.
Beyond school, these skills are essential for career opportunities. Most jobs require reading and math, and individuals with strong proficiency enjoy greater economic mobility and job stability. In daily life, literacy and numeracy empower people to manage finances, interpret important information, and navigate an increasingly digital world.
To support student growth in these critical areas, the STAR Benchmark Assessment plays a vital role. STAR helps identify learning gaps early, enabling timely interventions. It provides teachers with actionable data to personalize instruction and ensures students can track their progress over time, building confidence and motivation. Together, strong foundational skills and targeted assessments set students on a path toward academic, professional, and personal success.
I intend to approach the week ahead with focus and determination, making the most of each opportunity to learn and grow. I hope you will join me in this effort to launch ourselves back into supporting our students in reaching their academic goals and lifelong success.
Thank you for your partnership and commitment to Mitchell High School, where We Increase Numbers by believing in our Students-WINS!
