Counseling Corner
School Counseling: Welcome to Quarter 2!
Hard to believe, but the second quarter is officially underway! This transition is a great time to reflect, refresh, and reset.
Here are a few quick tips to help your student start Quarter 2 strong:
Reflect & Reset: Take a moment with your student to look back at Quarter 1. Celebrate their wins, no matter how small, and discuss any challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.
Check Academic Habits: Refresh routines around homework, organization, and bedtime. Small tweaks to daily habits can make a big difference in stress levels.
Focus on Well-Being: As the weather changes and schedules get busier, encourage downtime, regular sleep, and healthy habits.
Our counseling team is here to support your student's academic, social, and emotional growth. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need resources or support!

Celebrating Bilingualism & Family Support
Celebrating Bilingualism
Knowing more than one language means having more ways to connect, share ideas, and tell our stories. Our multilingual students bring these strengths into classrooms across our school every day.
In a future newsletter, weβd love to highlight some of their voices, experiences, and work, while allowing each student to choose what they feel comfortable sharing.

COUNSELOR CORNER
A Word From Our School Counselor Kylie Jensen
Weβve officially reached the halfway point of Term 1! We hope your classes are going well and that youβre settling into the school year.
This is a great time to check in with yourself and your goals. How are your grades looking? Are you keeping up with assignments? Is there a class that has been more challenging than you expected? If things arenβt going exactly as planned, thatβs okayβthere is still plenty of time to make adjustments and finish the term strong.
Remember, you donβt have to wait until youβre struggling to ask for help. Your teachers, counselors, and other school staff are here to support you.
As we move into the second half of the term, take a moment to celebrate whatβs going well, identify where you may need some extra support, and keep moving forward. Youβve got this!

π Student-Athlete Academic Expectations
Balancing Academics & Athletics
We want our student-athletes to be successful both in the classroom and in their sport. To support this goal, student grades will be checked every Monday and Tuesday as part of our athletic academic expectations.
π What Happens If a Student Is Failing?
If a student is failing a class, they will be placed on the Academic Study Hall list. Coaches will receive a list of students who need to attend, and those students will be pulled from their sports period and will miss practice on Monday and/or Tuesday.
Students will return to their regular practice schedule on Wednesday and Thursday, and this process will repeat weekly as needed.
β How Does a Student Return to Their Sports Period?
Students will remain in Academic Study Hall until they can demonstrate progress toward passing their classes. To return to their regular sports period, students must:
Complete and submit missing or incomplete assignments.
Work toward bringing their grade(s) to a passing level.
Show the Study Hall teacher their passing grades and submitted work.
Receive clearance from the Study Hall teacher before returning to their sports period.
π― Our Goal
Our goal is not to keep students from participating in their sport. Rather, this process is designed to help student-athletes understand that academic success is a requirement for athletic participation while providing dedicated time and support to get caught up.
π¨βπ©βπ§ How Parents & Guardians Can Help
Parents and guardians can play an important role by regularly monitoring their student's grades and missing assignments. Staying aware of grades throughout the week can help prevent a student from being placed in Academic Study Hall and missing practice.
For added convenience, we have provided instructions on how to become a Parent Observer in Canvas. This allows parents and guardians to monitor their student's:
Courses
Grades
Assignments
Upcoming work
Thank you for partnering with us to support our student-athletes and reinforce the importance of balancing academics and athletics.
Questions about the academic eligibility process? Please contact the school and ask for Heidi White

CARPOOL CONNECTIONS
Together We Go Further β Academics. Athletics. Community.
Does your family need help with transportation to or from school? Are you interested in connecting with other Salt Lake Academy families in your area who may also be looking for carpool options?
Salt Lake Academy families can access the Frogtummy Carpool feature through their Aspire account. This resource helps participating families find and connect with other school families in their area to explore possible carpool arrangements.
How to Get Started
- Log in to your Aspire account.
- Access the Frogtummy Carpool feature.
- Look for participating families in your area.
- Connect directly with families to discuss possible transportation arrangements.
Please remember: Salt Lake Academy is helping families become aware of and access the Frogtummy carpool resource. The school does not arrange, supervise, approve, or guarantee individual carpools. All transportation arrangements are made independently between participating families. Families are responsible for determining whether a carpool arrangement is appropriate for them.
AT A GLANCE β QUICK ACCESS
A quick reference for parents β the key policies from our Code of Conduct, condensed so you can save it, forward it, or check it whenever a question comes up.
Please note: if your student has a zero hour, their start time is 8:25 AM.
Every Friday, students have the opportunity to work online or get help from teachers β we call it Flex Friday. Students aren't required to come into the building, but they're welcome to if they need extra help or tutoring. In-person support is available from 10:30 AMβ12:30 PM.
The Free and Reduced Lunch application also covers sports fees! You can apply for both using just one form. Please click the link above to submit your Free and Reduced Lunch application and get assistance.
