Tiger Times August 2026
A Harrison Publication - Omaha Public Schools

A Message From The Principal.....
Dear Harrison Families,
The wait is almost over, and we are excited to welcome our Tigers back for another wonderful school year!
Our staff has been busy preparing for an exciting year of learning. During the first few weeks, we'll focus on building relationships, establishing routines, and creating a safe, supportive environment where every student can thrive.
This year marks Year Two of our TIGERS Expectations! We'll continue reinforcing Teamwork, Integrity, Grit, Empathy, Responsibility, and Self-Respect as we build a positive school community together.
Our theme this year is "Level Up!" We encourage every Tiger to challenge themselves, grow each day, and take the next step toward reaching their full potential.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to another amazing year of learning, growth, and Tiger pride!
Go Tigers!
Important Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
As we begin another school year, I want to take this opportunity to remind you of some important daily arrival and dismissal procedures.
Please be patient and follow the procedures listed below to ensure a safe arrival and dismissal process.
- When dropping off/picking up students, please remember that the ‘Kiss and Go’ lane is designated as our drop-off/pick-up lane.
- If you prefer to walk your child to the school's entrance, we welcome you to do so. Please park in the surrounding neighborhood. Please do not park and exit your vehicle in the ‘Kiss and Go’ up lane.
- Please use designated crosswalks when crossing to/from campus.
- The tardy bell will ring daily at 8:50 am. Any students arriving after 8:50 am should enter at the main entrance and check in at the main office to receive a tardy slip.
Safety Drills
The safety of all children at Harrison, as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel, is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures.
Over the next few days, Harrison students and staff will practice each of the 5 main drills listed below. Please take a look at our English/Spanish SRP posters below for more specific information. Ask your child about the drills and review the information listed.
Fire Drill (8/24)
The purpose of this drill is to practice safely evacuating the building in the event of an emergency. We want students to understand the importance of the drill while feeling safe and prepared, not frightened, when the alarm sounds. By practicing, students will know what to do, where to go, and how to respond calmly and safely.
Hold Drill (8/25)
The purpose of this drill is to clear our hallways and bring all students to a classroom or office area.
Secure Drill (8/25)
The purpose of this drill is to bring everyone indoors and lock all exterior doors.
Lockdown Drill (8/25)
Harrison will conduct “Lockdown Drills” periodically throughout each school year. This type of drill will secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff, and visitors inside the building. The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During a “lockdown drill” all of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. To ensure everyone's safety, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the building until the drill is completed.
Shelter Drill (8/26)
The purpose of this drill is to be prepared to move our students and staff to a safe location within the building in case of severe weather or tornadoes.
