Tiered Fidelity Inventory: A Valuable Tool

How do we know the direction to take our schools in the area of culture and climate? What do we need to have in place so all members of our school community experience a positive environment? The Tiered Fidelity Inventory provides those answers! The TFI takes PBIS teams through standards that help shape the school environment. It is a road map that explains what should be in place in order to ensure every student has access to support when needed. PBIS teams can go through the TFI at different points throughout the year to see how their School wide PBIS systems are being implemented with fidelity. The TFI allows schools to create action items on areas of improvement that lead to a solid school Wide PBIS system in which all benefit.

Involving Families Involving Families

Family Involvement is a Key Component in Student and School Success

As we look to educate the students in our charge, we have long known the importance of involvement at home to support what we do at school. With distance learning, it is even more critical to be able to have that support from families. Family involvement has a positive effect on students outcome. When families are involved, students exhibit more positive attitudes and behavior. They also have a feeling of more confidence and typically value school more because all those in their household feel it is important.

How can we form a partnership and ensure open lines of communication from a distance? We can use the PBIS framework to help support students and families. Creating a behavior matrix and expectations for not only school but home, will set expectations for success in the home environment. Helping families create expectations for creating routines, setting up a quiet study area, logging in on time, and creating a daily schedule are all beneficial ways to help support families as they try to set their student up for success.

By helping families create structure, it can assist in the overall improvement in a variety of ways:

Higher tests scores

Better grades

Improved attendance

Higher levels of work completion

Positive student motivation

Improved school attitude
