Important Announcements
- Google Classroom Enrollment: All students should join their graduating year Google Classroom for important announcements. Juniors and Seniors, please also join the KC Counselor Google Classroom for vital resources and announcements as you prepare for graduation.
- Trimester 2 will begin on November 18th. Students will have access to their schedules in PowerSchool at least a day prior to that date.
Schedule Change Requests:
- Counselors will prioritize meeting with students that do not have a full schedule, do not have classes they need to graduate, and are in classes they already took. If you are in one of these situations, you can email your counselor or stop by the main office during the first week of the trimester during the hour of the course you need to change.
- Elective changes or other changes are last on the priority list and will not be addressed until later the first week and into the second week of the trimester.
Celebrations from Trimester 1
Senior Meetings: every senior is provided an opportunity in the fall to meet with counselors to audit credits, discuss schedules, and discuss post-secondary plans. It is a very productive time for our students!
College Visits: We had a series of engaging college visits, including representatives from well-known institutions such as Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and Hope College. These visits provided students with valuable insights into their future educational opportunities.
Community Colleges offer great career opportunities for students as well! We held a Community College Lunch Fair on October 11th and invited over 50 seniors and juniors to attend. KVCC, Southwestern Michigan College, Lake Michigan College, and Kellogg Community College were all in attendance. Special thanks to Ms. Garrison for organizing the event.
Our College, Career, and FAFSA Night was a hit! We are excited to share highlights from the event at The Promise Building, which was a tremendous success! Thank you to our lead Counselor, Kelly Fullerton, for coordinating everything. A number of students, families, and community members attended and everyone left with useful information about FAFSA, trades, scholarships, KRESA programs, and much more!

Upcoming Programs and Considerations for each grade
Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors
Get on Xello and review your saved careers and pathways. Record your goals and plans so counselors can use that information to guide scheduling.
Course selection will be coming up in the spring. Start preparing by reviewing the graduation requirements and the bulletin of courses (more info below).
Sophomores
The KRESA CTE, EFA, and EMC programs will be visiting KC in January. The application to enroll in a CTE/EFA course will open shortly after they visit. Start connecting your pathways and goals in Xello with the available courses. Start looking through the current CTE/EFA course offerings to prepare!
Juniors
Log into Xello to connect your career pathway to specific post-secondary educational opportunities in preparation for your senior year. Xello has an abundance of information summarized very concisely to help guide you. You can look up colleges, majors, jobs, and get more information than any one counselor could possibly provide!
Seniors
Continue to explore and apply to colleges, community colleges, trade schools, and other post-secondary programs. Make sure you attend your senior meetings and take some time to visit campuses and sites to help process your decision. Please let your counselor know your plans once they are set!
Graduation details will be posted in the 2025 Google Classroom as they are available. Make sure you are checking that frequently as the year continues. Please check in with your class advisor with questions about the fun senior celebrations (graduation ceremony, class trip, etc).
