Random Acts of Kindness
What is a random act of kindness?
Think about a time that someone did something nice for you, big or small, and how it made you feel. Unexpected kind acts make those around you smile and could really turn someone’s day around. “Random Acts of Kindness connect you to your humanity, remind you how much love there is in the world, and inspire you to pay it forward” (The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation).

Spring Conferences
Spring Conferences are coming up on Tuesday, February 27th and Tuesday, March 5th. Both nights will be in-person from 3:30-7:30. Teachers will be contacting you by February 15th to sign up for a time slot to meet. We will have many other resources available for families that night, we hope you take this opportunity to connect with us.
Hidden In Plain Sight
Hidden In Plain Sight exhibit will be set up during both conference nights. This is an opportunity for parents, teachers, and others who work with adolescents to experience and explore a mock environment of a teenager and learn to spot signs of possible substance use and risky behavior. Stop by the pottery art room across from the Nurses Office to view the exhibit and learn warning signs. Since this program is for adults only, Project Reach Out will be available for students to do an activity while they wait for you.

Dance Team Recap
The SMS Dance Team had an awesome first season! They practiced 2 days per week, one day was at SMS where they worked on their routines and learned basic dance technique. The other practice was held at SHS where they worked on conditioning and technique with the SHS Dance Team! They were able to learn a pom routine, a hip hop routine, and 2 hockey routines. The girls got to perform at a basketball game, 2 hockey games, 2 dance recitals, and got to compete at the River Falls Wildcat Invite! We were so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the winter intramurals this year and to build positive connections with the high school. We are excited for the future of this team! Thank you Mrs. Bender for all of the work you put in behind the scenes to make this happen this year!
Spartan Ticket Store
All staff hand out Spartan Tickets to students who are showing Work, Respect, Belong at SMS. They have the opportunity to "spend" their Spartan Tickets at a store that is now open. If you would like to help promote positive behavior at SMS, we have created an Amazon Wish List here. Any donations are appreciated.

Healthy Minute
BE KIND
With so much negativity within the school walls, outside of school, on social media or in the news in general, it’s so easy to forget the basics. Spreading kindness has positive health benefits. Some simple ways to spread kindness include:
Be polite to peers and adults
Say hi to/make friends with students other than your usual friend group
Smile
Give compliments
Help others when they need help
Please Be Kind, you never know what another person is going through.
