Translation: Health, love, money, and time to enjoy it!

Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day, which falls on Monday, May 5 in 2025, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican American populations.

We’d like to say “Thank You” to all of the GES Administrative Staff, Teachers, Paras, Cafeteria Staff, and Custodians for their hard work and for playing such an important role in shaping each child’s character and education! They are the best of the best and we appreciate them. We challenge our students and families to let them know how valued they are. Please check the GES Newsletter, Website, emails and flyers for ideas and small gestures to show them thanks and gratitude throughout the week.

Five Tips Toward a More Positive Attitude

1. Kids model their parents’ behavior. If they see you bouncing back from setbacks, they’ll learn to do the same.

2. Help them see a way around obstacles. When something doesn’t work out as planned, encourage them to brainstorm other ways to approach the problem or to reach their goal.

3. Let them know that negative reactions are okay when it’s appropriate. Having a positive attitude doesn’t mean burying legitimate feelings, but acknowledging them, and then finding a way to move on.

4. Teach constructive reframing. If a child declares their lousy at something, suggest that they simply need more practice and that if excelling is important, they’ll eventually master the necessary skills. Practice makes possible!!!

5. Encourage positive self-talk. Words have power, so offer a few affirmations they can repeat until they become second nature.
