From the Executive Director

We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend celebrating the Braves’ win. Following last week’s launch of the online athletics wear shop, we would like to clarify how the two stores work independently to support our Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) and Athletics respectively.

Our spirit wear shop features a wide selection of GLOBE clothing and accessories, including headwear, drinks tumblers, car magnets, umbrellas and more. A portion of every purchase made through this store goes to support GLOBE PTCC directly.

Our athletics wear shop, launched last week, also features a selection of clothing and accessories, predominantly aimed at parents and fans alike who enjoy showing their support for our sports teams. Once again, each purchase made through this store goes to support our athletics department with vital sports related equipment.

This week's newsletter touches on a variety of topics as we head towards the Thanksgiving break, so be sure to read through the various sections below.

GLOBE receives Dual Language Immersion grant

The GLOBE Academy is honored to receive a Dual Language Immersion grant from the Georgia Department of Education World Languages, in collaboration with the Georgia Foundation for Public Education. GLOBE will be purchasing Little Sponges Online Language Program for Children, an interactive dual language curriculum that leverages the power of real-life videos, bilingual characters, and interactive games to teach young students listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills in French, Mandarin, and Spanish. Thank you to our volunteers

GLOBE truly appreciates all the time and effort that our volunteers donate to help things run smoothly in and around our school campuses and at our events. Thank you for all that you do!

Staff Gift Fund - Help support our teachers

The Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) Staff Gift Fund supports our passionate, hard-working, dynamic teachers and staff who help our children every day. Click here to make your donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated. If possible, we suggest a donation of $50 per child, per school year. Thank you.

Lower Campus Lost & Found will be cleared out by Thanksgiving break. If your child is missing an item, email us with a description and any name tag information. If your item(s) are located, we will email you to arrange collection. We still require a few more helpers to organize the Lost & Found. Campus notes

Upper Campus

Please ask your student(s) to check for any missing items, as Lost & Found will be sorted through and cleared out prior to the Thanksgiving break. Further information can be found in the PTCC section earlier in this newsletter.

Parents of morning walkers should escort your student(s) all the way to the crosswalk/traffic light before crossing Briarcliff to ensure they use the cross walk safely.

Lower Campus

Please avoid parking on Briarwillow Drive, particularly in the afternoon, as this makes pedestrian crossing especially difficult. Remember to pack a spare mask and wear them correctly to cover both mouth and nose.

Whoo's Wondering?

The first edition of Whoo’s Wondering, in which Executive Director Christi Elliott-Earby and Board Chair Ryan Hudak answered a selection of questions that you submitted, can be viewed here.) They’ll be back recording another edition of the series soon. Submit your questions here.

Vaccine survey

We encourage our GLOBE community to complete this vaccine survey being conducted by Emory University. The survey is 100% anonymous and it will assist in gauging interest in hosting a vaccine clinic on campus and addressing any common misconceptions within the community.

Thank you to all of our parents and staff for your vigilance in keeping GLOBE's COVID policies and procedures and for your support as we work to create the safest on-campus environment as possible. Click here to download the COVID handbook.

Communicating with GLOBE

There are several ways we communicate with GLOBE families, and we are continuing to work to improve their effectiveness. In addition to this newsletter, be sure the channels below are on your radar.

  • Weekly teacher emails: Every Friday, you will receive an email from each of your child's teachers, with details on what they're doing at school. Not receiving these? Please let us know. (You can of course email the teachers with any questions, too.)
  • Remind text alerts: Remind is a service that we use to send time-sensitive alerts via text message. (There's also an app available.) If you haven't yet signed up for this, please do so by texting @globers to 81010 for whole school updates.

For Upper Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @ucgl

For Lower Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @lcgl

  • GLOBE website: This is a go-to source for enduring information. (There's a search option in the top right corner to make it easier to find what you need.)
  • GLOBE Facebook page: Don't use social media? No problem. While we know Facebook is useful for many, any critical information shared here will also be shared on other channels.

Board of Directors Meetings

All meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the community. You can find the full calendar of board meetings here. In advance of each meeting, the board will publish the meeting agenda and issue a call for public comments, and after each meeting, minutes and a video link to the meeting will be shared.

GLOBE's governing board comprises volunteers who lead committees focused on Academics, Communication, Development, Diversity, Facilities, Finance, and Strategic Planning; this year, a committee will also convene to renew GLOBE's charter. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact board chair Ryan Hudak.
