CEF Grants: Deer Hill is so grateful for the ongoing support of the CEF. As part of the Spring grant cycle, Deer Hill was so fortunate to be awarded the following grants:

  • $2500 for creative indoor recess supplies, submitted by Victoria Cataldo
  • $9000 for ninja warrior equipment, submitted by Brett Youmans

Swinging with Friends: Speaking of CEF grants, Deer Hill was the recipient of a very special CEF grant this past fall that was written by teachers, Kara DeSalvo and Emily LaFleur, as well as 5th grade student, Taylor Dodge. After expressing her disappointment that she wasn't able to swing with her good friend Portia Cataudella at recess, Taylor went into problem solving mode and worked with Ms. LaFleur and Mrs. DeSalvo to submit a CEF grant for an accessible swing. That swing was recently hung, and this week both families and teachers came together to celebrate the enduring friendship that led to its installation on the Deer Hill playground.

CYT's Aladdin: Deer Hill was happy to host Cohasset Youth Theatre's production of Aladdin this week. The performers gave us a sneak peek during our Monday Meet Up assembly, and it was great to see the show last night. The final performance is tonight!

CPS Purposeful Play & Risk Challenge CPS Purposeful Play & Risk Challenge

Each month Superintendent Shannon includes a suggestion for purposeful play and developmentally appropriate risk. Here is the May challenge!

Keeping up with our Anxious Generation purposeful play and responsible risk taking challenges, I am inviting you to join in on our May activities. This month, our challenges are:

Purposeful Play Challenge

Let's get creative this month! May is here and so are the flowers and planting season. Plant a garden together. Build the plan, head to the store together to pick out what you're going to plant, get messy in the dirt as you dig, and then watch as what you did together grows. Celebrate your success. Bonus points if you plant a new fruit or vegetable that your child tries as a new food once it's planted!

Responsible Risk Taking Challenge

This month let your child plan a solo adventure within safe boundaries according to their age. Let your child walk to a neighbor’s house, deliver a letter to the mailbox by themselves, ride their bike to somewhere of their choice, or stay home alone. Independence builds confidence!
