eLearning Days eLearning Days

zoom_out_map

District 2 now calls eLearning Days when closing schools due to extreme weather or other emergencies. eLearning Days will begin an hour later than normal school days to provide teachers planning time to adjust their instruction for eLearning.

On eLearning Days, Johnson students will log into their Chromebooks and go to their Google Classrooms through their Classlink page, and join eLearning from the Google Meets link(s) posted there. Attendance will be taken, and students will then be engaged in live instruction for the entire five-hour school day.

An eLearning Day counts as a regular school day, and does not require the District to use a built-in emergency day at the end of the school year. Parents will then be notified no later than 6 AM if the District is closing its schools and holding an eLearning Day. (No announcement means it will be a normal school day.)

Teachers will be available to support students with the content being presented for learning during live instruction or through email. Assistance with any technology issues may be addressed by contacting members of the District’s technology team. The Johnson School Technology Support Specialist is Mr. Joe West who can be reached at 630-766-2605 extension 3120.

BSD2 schools are working to identify families that require Internet access support and potentially supply them with mobile hotspots so their children can participate in instruction during an eLearning Day. Please see our information below under "Internet at Home" for more information.

Bensenville School District 2 believes in educating and supporting the whole child. At school, District 2 will be complying with Illinois law by meeting the Drug and Substance Abuse requirements. This mandates that all Illinois public schools provide age-appropriate drug and substance abuse instruction, study, and discussion in Kindergarten through 8th Grade.

You have received or will receive forms for the yearly dental screening program for your child sponsored by the Dupage County Health Department in conjunction with the Illinois State Dental Program grant.

This is a voluntary program offered to any elementary child in the district.

If you sign and return the completed dental forms your child will receive a dental exam

  • This dental exam will meet the state mandated requirement for Kindergarten, 2nd,.
  • If the child meets the necessary requirements they will receive a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants.
  • A letter will be sent home with the exam results and what services were done.

Outdoor Recess Outdoor Recess

zoom_out_map
Elementary students have outdoor recess for 20 minutes a day when the temperature, including wind chill, is 15 or above. They will have indoor recess when the temperature, including wind chill, is below 15. They will also stay indoors when it is raining or snowing, or the recess area is too muddy, snowy or icy.

However, once maintenance crews are able to clear paved areas of safety hazards like snow and ice, students will typically return to outdoor recess so long as the temperature is 15 or above. So parents should make sure they send their students with a warm coat, scarf, gloves, and boots in the winter months.
