Superintendent's Update - 6.13.2025
Dear CPS Community,
As we close out the 2024-25 academic year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the entire school community. Our students have shown tremendous determination and creativity, excelling in academics, sports, arts and extracurricular activities. Their enthusiasm and commitment has been truly inspiring. I would like to thank our staff for going above and beyond, fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for our students. Their unwavering passion for education and their adaptability in the face of challenges has been instrumental in our success. I am incredibly thankful for their hard work and dedication to the students and families of Chelmsford.
To our parents and guardians, your support and partnership has been invaluable, as always. Your involvement in your child's education has made a significant impact, and we are grateful for your trust and collaboration. Thank you all for remaining resilient, flexible and determined throughout the school year. The last day of school for all students is Tuesday, June 17, which will be a half day. This will be my last weekly newsletter for the current school year, but I will be back in touch before we embark on the 2025-26 school year.
Please join me in congratulating Coach DiStasi and the Chelmsford High School baseball team on an incredible season, which will culminate this evening as they take the field in the Division I State Championship game at Polar Park in Worcester. This is the first time in the MIAA era that the baseball team has advanced to the state title game; and this particular team has done so in Cinderella fashion, coming into the tournament as a 14-seed. No matter the outcome tonight, we are all incredibly proud of the perseverance, grit and sportsmanship this team has shown all spring. Good luck Lions!
Before logging off for the summer, please take a moment to respond to the Cell Phone & Social Media Use Survey we are conducting. We know this is a topic that impacts families, and we want to ensure that your voice is part of the conversation as we think about what is best for our students. Your feedback will help us better understand community perspectives and inform district discussions and potential policy decisions moving forward.
While heading into your well-deserved summer break, please take some time to reflect on our accomplishments and the bonds we have strengthened. Let us also prepare for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in the new school year. Together, we will continue to foster a community of learning, growth and excellence. Thank you for an amazing school year. Enjoy your summer, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back with renewed energy and enthusiasm at the end of August!
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Cell Phone & Social Media Use
As we head into summer, I am reaching out to ask for your perspective on an important topic affecting students and schools across Massachusetts: the use of cell phones and social media during the school day. This issue is gaining significant attention statewide, with legislation being considered that could limit or eliminate student access to cell phones in schools. We know this is a topic that impacts families, and we want to ensure that your voice is part of the conversation as we think about what is best for our students.
Working with an expert in the field, we have developed a short survey below to gather input from parents and guardians. Your feedback will help us better understand community perspectives and inform district discussions and potential policy decisions moving forward. We would truly appreciate you taking a few minutes to share your thoughts before the school year ends. Your insights are essential to helping us create a school environment that supports both learning and student well-being.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership.

The Sun: ‘Rely on what’s real’ - Chelmsford High School’s Class of 2025 graduates
As the Chelmsford High School Class of 2025 moves on to higher education, the workplace, and other post-graduation plans, one teacher is imploring them to “rely on what’s real.”
At Saturday’s graduation ceremony held at the Tsongas Center, faculty speaker Michael Shea warned graduates of the dangers to skilled professions presented by artificial intelligence and told them, “Your real intelligence connects you to your humanity.”
He encouraged graduates to reject AI when it comes to their education or any act of creation, and to preserve humanity against the risk of dehumanization posed by artificial intelligence.
“You are the answer to this conundrum of artificiality,” Shea said. “You must decide your own future through real intelligence in all its forms, strength of personality and human connection. It’s all we have left. It’s what defines us. It’s why we’re here today, celebrating this momentous achievement in your lives.”

The Sun: 14th-seeded Chelmsford Lions roar into state baseball final after another upset win
The 14th-seeded Chelmsford Lions continued their Cinderella run all the way to the Division I baseball state title game by upsetting the second-seeded St. John’s Shrewsbury Pioneers, 5-3, Wednesday night. They will now take on Braintree in the championship game.
The first three innings saw a pitcher’s duel as Chelmsford’s Finn Ramseyer and St. John’s star Brady Chenevert each got three strikeouts and allowed only two baserunners apiece and neither team threatened much. The scoring started in the top of the fourth when Ramseyer scorched a triple to right center that brought in Matt Hall. The next batter, John Latham, knocked him home with a single to left. In the bottom half of the inning, St. John’s was able to trim the deficit to one on a sac fly from Parker Higgins, scoring Jack Fourges.
The Sun: Matt Stuart gem lifts Chelmsford past Wellesley in 1-0 thriller
In the very back of Chelmsford ace Matt Stuart’s mind is that each of the program’s last three state tournament runs have ended in games he started. Yet another gem from the senior Gardner-Webb University-commit on Sunday instead has the Lions reaching a new height.
With a complete-game shutout, in which the four-year starter allowed just three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts, Stuart won a true pitchers duel to lift 14th-seeded Chelmsford (17-8) over No. 11 Wellesley, 1-0, in the Div. 1 state quarterfinals to secure the program’s first trip to the Final Four.
