MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I am very excited for my FIRST prom assembly next Friday! I have heard wonderful things about the fun and creative campaigns, assembly skits, and videos our court members are planning. Campaigning will officially begin this coming Monday. Schedule for the PM prom assembly is posted below.
Please also remember that next week marks our LAST OST/EOC assessment, which is Science. It is crucial that all Grade 8 students and those taking Biology are present for testing on Wednesday, May 7th. We have a very short makeup window. Therefore, if your child will be absent on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, please inform me as soon as possible so we can arrange for them to take the test on Monday, May 5th, or Tuesday, May 6th.
In addition to all of this, next week is also TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! A huge thank you to our After Prom/PTO for organizing a very creative and special week for our staff to celebrate the incredible work they do daily for the students of Chardon High School.
Finally, please NOTE A SCHEDULE CHANGE regarding our block days. Due to SENIOR FINALS taking place on Tuesday, May 14th, and Wednesday, May 15th, the entire building, including all students and grade levels, will temporarily return to BLOCK SCHEDULING on those two days. Tuesday, May 14th will be a RED day, and Wednesday, May 15th will be a BLACK day. This adjustment to the block schedule for these two days will cause the least amount of disruption for our staff and students, given the number of courses with multiple grade levels.
PROM ASSEMBLY SCHEDULE
Building Schedule Week of May 05
Monday: White Day
Tuesday: White Day
Wednesday: Testing White Day Schedule
Thursday: White Day
Friday: White Day, PM ASSEMBLY SCHEDULE (posted above)
Enjoy your weekend.
Mr. Tomco
HOUSE BILL 96
Key concerns include proposed property tax reforms that could accelerate the need to place a new operating levy on the ballot for the public’s consideration, the elimination of Ohio's Fair School Funding Formula which may lead to budget shortfalls, caps on district cash reserves limiting the district's ability to manage finances, and the expansion of public funding for private education.
The district is advocating for local control, engaging with state legislators and professional organizations, and urging community members to voice their concerns to elected officials, emphasizing that HB 96 in its current form is detrimental to public schools.
HB 96 is currently in the Ohio Senate for consideration and is anticipated to be approved by the Governor by June 30, 2025. For a complete overview of the Ohio Budget Process, please visit Ohio Policy Matters Guide to the State Budget HERE.
Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any questions concerning the status of HB 96.

FINAL SCHEDULE - May 19 to May 23
FINAL SCHEDULE CLARIFICATION: Please be aware of the expectations of study halls during finals week:
-
Late Start/Early Arrival: If a student has a study hall scheduled for the first period or the last period during finals testing (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), they have the option for a late start (arriving after first period) or an early dismissal (leaving after their last class).
-
Mid-Day Study Halls (Wednesday & Thursday): If a student has a study hall scheduled in the middle of the day (specifically Wednesday, 4th period, or Thursday, 5th period), they are required to remain in school for the duration of that study hall. Late arrival or early dismissal is not permitted for mid-day study halls.
We hope this clarifies the expectations for study hall attendance during finals week. Please plan accordingly.
WHITE SCIENCE DAY TESTING SCHEDULE
THESPIAN SOCIETY INDUCTION
Chardon High School’s chapter of the International Thespian Society (#1784) inducted 6 new members on Wednesday evening, April 23 (Shakespeare’s birthday). Graduating seniors were celebrated by awarding them cords for their commencement gowns. Students who earned their Varsity Letter for drama received them during the ceremony. We also awarded three Mary Price Thespian Scholarships to graduating seniors: Carrie Evans, Dominic Iskra, and Sofia Flatto.
The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program.
ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre – performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.
Senior Finals (if needed) May 14th and 15th
May 14, RED DAY: Finals 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th periods
May 15, BLACK DAY: Finals 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th periods
We understand that these testing days may, in some instances, conflict with your Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
It is your responsibility to review the senior final exam testing schedule carefully and make arrangements directly with your individual teachers to complete any final exams that overlap with your AP testing.
Please communicate with your teachers as soon as possible to discuss alternative times or methods for completing your final exams to ensure you are able to fulfill all requirements for graduation.

GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
ACT REPORTS/TESTING UPDATES
ACT student reports have been sent home with students through their US History (10th grade) and Government (11th grade) social studies classes. Scores can also be accessed through the My ACT account that students set up prior to testing. If your student does not have a social studies class at CHS, they can pick up the report in the counseling office.
For current 11th grade students who want to increase their ACT score, it is highly recommended that they sign-up to take another ACT on one of the National Test Dates this spring, summer and/or early fall. HERE is the ACT website where students can register to take another ACT.
The ACT has made major changes to its test beginning this month including the option to test online on Saturday (National) test dates, reducing the number of questions per section, and making the science subtest optional, to name a few. HERE is an article with all the details.
