GTA Student Leadership Opportunites

Being a GTA Ambassador is a STUDENT and SERVANT LEADERSHIP role. GTA Ambassadors are students who pledge to represent the GTA as SERVANT LEADERS and STUDENT LEADERS at various and numerous events throughout the year. These events include:

• The Elementary School Open House Initiative in September
• Helping Mr. Bernhart Set Up for Field Experiences
• Being a Parent Chaperone Guide on Field Experience Days
• Assisting in Hosting the Annual EXPO OF EXCELLENCE Information Night in February
• Leading School Tours for 5th Parents and Families
• Assisting with After School Events as Hosts, Guides, Setup, Takedown, etc.
• Other Various Events :)

There are TWELVE returning GTA Ambassadors, who will serve as leaders of the newly selected ambassadors, so this year we will add 13 ambassadors to the GTA Ambassadors Cadre. Interested students must submit an application to be one of the newly selected GTA Ambassadors for the 2026-27 school year. The application will be scored by FBISD GT Department central office staff, including Dr. Westphal (Director of GT) based on the rubric and execution of the application.

The GTA Ambassador One-Pager Application is a non-traditional application that allows for students to show:

• their uniqueness and creativity
• their qualifications
• their ability to follow instructions and read rubrics (or not)

It is recommended that applicants read the instructions and rubric carefully if considering applying for this honored position. Thank you.

In an effort to make sure that EVERY GT-identified 5th grader in FBISD knows about the GTA, this initiative aspires to have a GTA STUDENT LEADER and parent at EVERY elementary school open house to tell people about the GTA. Students (and parents) who volunteer will be provided instructions and materials to set up an informational booth about the GTA at each elementary school open house. Elementary open houses are scheduled for Thursday, September 3; Wednesday, September 9; and Thursday, September 10. It is allowed to sign up for more than one date.

NOTE 1: You will NOT be presenting as part of their official open house program, so don't worry! 😜

NOTE 2: GTA Representatives are needed at EVERY elementary school open house. Since we only need 1 student/parent volunteer at each campus, you might NOT be at the elementary school you attended. It is CRUCIAL, however, that we recruit volunteers who are prepared to go to any school where representation is needed. We thank you in advance for your willingness to travel if needed.

NOTE 3: This sign up is just to indicate your willingness to volunteer. It does NOT include the sign up for elementary campuses. That sign up is still being completed and will be shared later.

Next week, a Sign-up Genius with the DATE and TIME of EACH elementary school open house will be emailed to those student/parent combos who have indicated they're available to help with this important initiative. Only one student/parent combo is needed or allowed at each school. REMEMBER, the goal is to have GTA representation at EVERY elementary school open house.

As an act of SERVANT LEADERSHIP, this will mean serving the FBISD community by filling a slot at ANY school in need of your service. PLEASE sign up even if the school(s) of your choice is not available. This is NOT about visiting your old teachers (sure, that'd be nice, but)...It is about SHARING INFORMATION EQUALLY WITH EVERY FBISD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAMPUS!

On Tuesday, September 1st at 7:00 pm, Mr. Bernhart will host a meeting in TEAMS to review the responsibilities and expectations of student/parent volunteers. Student/parent volunteers who are presenting on Thursday, September 3rd can pick up the tri-fold and flyers on Wednesday 9/2 or Thursday 9/3. Students are able to take these home at the end of the day or parents can pick up the materials.
