Principal's Message... Principal's Message...

"Be yourself, everyone else is already taken!" ~Oscar Wilde

In this age of TikTok trends, I see so many people following the micro clip of the newest dance move or phrases that travel across the country, becoming common speak among people whose paths will never cross. Technology has made it appealing to join in a collective mob mentality, exemplified by kids across the country bobbing their hands up and down, saying, "Six- Seven!", with no known reason. Now there is a quiet creek that kids are on, but they don't know why. From “Bro” to 'Brain Rot' to AI Bots determining what they should think, how they should feel, and who they should want to be. With so many mixed messages encouraging our young people to fit into a type or group, it is almost impossible for them to understand how invaluable it is to stand out.

Have you considered how much time our youth spend on smartphones playing games and listening the recycled ideas that promote gang banging, scamming, and hurting? Kendrick Lamar suggested turning the TV off to help our young people reconnect from within. And I agree because these devices keep our kids trapped in an unreal realm that impedes their ability to relate to others in a meaningful way. Time is Tiking and Toking past our kids who will wake up and realize they've lost time that can never be regained, all while scrolling. We know better, so it our job to help they do better!

We are committed to keeping our families informed about our commitment to fostering a safe learning environment for scholars and staff. The NJ Anti-Bullying Rights Act (ABR) defines harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) as any gesture, any written, verbal, or physical act, or any electronic communication, whether it be a single incident or a series of incidents, that is reasonably perceived as being motivated either by an actual or perceived characteristic.

Knowing a problem exists is the first step to addressing it! School community members (employees, scholars, parents/guardians, and visitors) are asked to immediately report allegations of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.

We ask that incidents be reported in writing to ensure the details are accurately recorded. If you want to submit an anonymous HIB Incident Report click the following link: Anonymous HIB Incident Report Link

The Difference Between Conflict & Bullying The Difference Between Conflict & Bullying

Understanding the difference between conflict and bullying is important for every parent. Conflict is a normal disagreement between students with equal power and can often be resolved through talking or problem-solving. Bullying, however, is repeated, intentional behavior that targets a student with less power and can harm, scare, or upset them.

When parents can recognize the difference, they can respond appropriately—helping their child navigate normal conflicts while taking action to address bullying. This knowledge supports a child’s safety, emotional well-being, and ability to develop healthy relationships at school.

Conflict

  • A disagreement or argument between students.

  • Both students have equal power.

  • Usually temporary and can often be resolved through talking or adult guidance.

*Example: Two students argue over a seat in the cafeteria.

Bullying / Harassment / Intimidation (HIB)

    • Defined under New Jersey’s Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights (N.J.S.A. 18A:37-14).

    • Happens when a student intentionally harms, humiliates, or threatens another student, including through electronic communication.

    • Involves a power imbalance (physical, social, or psychological).

    • Occurs on or off school grounds if it substantially disrupts school or interferes with a student’s education or safety.

*Example: A student keeps posting mean messages online about another student, making them feel unsafe.

Student Attendance Matters... Student Attendance Matters...

Research supports the direct relationship with student attendance and their academic accomplishments. Students who regularly attend school achieve at higher levels, developing social and emotional school readiness skills more quickly than students who do not attend regularly. Even the best teacher can only effectively provide learning opportunities when students are on time and present in school.

The compulsory education law (N.J.S.A. 18A:38-28 through 31) requires all children between the ages of 6-16 to attend school. The state of NJ deems students as chronically absenteeism if they are absent from school 10% of the school year. Any absence, whether excused or not, ultimately denies students the opportunity to meaningfully engage in the school's instructional program. So, let's commit to providing our scholars with the best opportunity learn by ensuring they are present and on time each day for school.

"Every school day that a scholar misses is a lost opportunity to learn!"
