Back to School

Only two weeks until the school is full of smiles and laughter again! We are getting so excited to have everyone back in the building.
The summer packets were mailed on Wednesday and should arrive any day now. There is a lot of information in the mailing and if you have any questions, feel free to call the office or send us an email at hssoffice@sau88.net.
We hope to see many of you at either the Back to School Ice Cream Social for 1st through 4th graders or at the Kindergarten Kick Off.
Leah Wheelan, Principal
Update your Alma Account
Don't forget to make sure that your contact information is updated in Alma. This will ensure that you are getting our mailings and email communication.
To complete the back-to-school forms for your student, go to sau88-hss.getalma.com and log in with your username and password (generally firstname.lastname format). If you forgot your password, you can reset it from the login screen. If you are having trouble logging in, please reach out to Jodi Wilkinson at jwilkinson@sau88.net or call the school. If you send yourself a reset password request, please check your spam folder.
Once you log in, click the link under your student that says "Alma Start Forms & Tasks". The link will take you to Alma Start to begin your back-to-school forms.
If you have any questions, you can check out a tutorial on our website under Parents > Alma.
News
New Staff Members
As most of you know, we had five educators retire last year, each with over 30 years of experience! Because of that, we have many new staff members this year. I will introduce each of them in more detail in future newsletters and you'll have the opportunity to meet them in person at the Ice Cream Social or Kindergarten Kick Off.
Assistant Principal - Megan McFarland (See her introduction below)
Kindergarten Teachers - Bonnie Gill and Christie Lucier
2nd Grade Teachers - Jennifer Eaton and Abby Kerber
4th Grade Teacher - Cassie Sousa
Special Education Teacher - Xandra Wishnefsky
Special Education Para Educators - Hannah Gove, Hannah LeClair, Devon Shafer
Student Support Teacher - Melanie Billings
Construction
The cafeteria and four new classrooms are completely ready for the fall and they are bright and welcoming. We are also at the end of the extended project which includes an expanded nurse's office, six renovated rooms/offices, and five updated bathrooms. The bathrooms will be done before school opens. The rest of the updated spaces are almost complete, but we are ready to open school without them if another week or two is needed for inspections and final floor cleaning.

Traffic Pattern Changes
We are working with facilities to create quality maps and detailed plans and these will be posted on our website and emailed to everyone. In the meantime, here are some high level changes.
1.The road right in front of school that is parallel to Hanover Street Road will be one way, but the opposite direction. It will run south to north (The red line on the map below).
2. We are going to use the new loop in front of the new classrooms as a car drop off loop in the morning. It will be important that you use this loop only if your child is ready to get out of the car. If you or your child needs more time, you'll come in through the V, park, and walk your child to the front of the school. The students will head straight to the playground if they arrive before 8:00. The blue line on the map below is the new car drop off loop.
3. Car pick up will be out front with no changes from last year. You will come in the 'V', park, and then join either the K-1 line or the 2nd - 4th grade line. The 'V' is the yellow entrance on the map.
Thank you for your flexibility as we work out the new system and try to find efficiencies.
