Note From the Principal
**Welcome Back to a Safe and Exciting School Year at Carberry Elementary!**
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we embark on a new school year, we are thrilled to welcome back our wonderful students to Carberry Elementary! The past summer has been a time of preparation and enhancement, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety and security of our students. We're excited to share with you the remarkable safety upgrades that have been put in place throughout our school.
**Front Locking Doors with Key Card Entry:**
The safety and well-being of our students are paramount, and we're proud to introduce our new front locking door system with key card entry. During school hours, the front doors of the building will remain locked. To access the school premises, simply ring the doorbell, and one of our friendly office staff members will be there to assist you promptly. This system guarantees that only authorized individuals gain entry, enhancing the security of our school environment. Please note that the front doors will be unlocked during the morning student drop-off period from 8:05 am until the 8:35 am tardy bell. For the remainder of the school day, the doorbell will be your gateway to the school. This enhancement is a significant step in our commitment to maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment for all our students.
**Safe ID Systems:**
Another vital upgrade we've implemented is the Safe ID system, designed to streamline the check-in and check-out processes while reinforcing security. When visiting our school, we kindly ask you to bring your driver's license for scanning into our system. This swift process will generate a visitor badge that permits you to access the designated classroom or area. For student check-outs, the driver's license requirement remains in place as an added layer of security. This measure ensures that only authorized individuals can collect students from the school premises. It's important to note that the information gathered is strictly limited to the details on the driver's license and cross-referenced with the national sex offenders registry. We do not utilize this information for any purpose beyond the safety and well-being of our students.
If you have any inquiries or seek further information regarding these safety upgrades, please feel free to reach out to me. We are here to assist you and provide the necessary guidance to ensure a smooth and secure school experience for your child.
Once again, welcome back to Carberry Elementary! We're looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth, and shared accomplishments. Together, let's continue fostering an environment where safety and education flourish hand in hand.
Warm regards,
Greg Alexander
Principal

Welcome to the Carberry Family
Nicole Korell
Hi! My name is Nicole Korell. I will be the new 1st Grade teacher here at Carberry! I grew up in Sun Valley, Idaho where I fell in love with figure skating, hiking, camping, water skiing, and snow skiing. I graduated from University of Idaho with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and now live in Horseshoe Bend with my husband, Lafe, and our cute dog, Rollo. This will be my second year teaching and I could not be more excited!
Sandra Letsom
I’m a first year, teacher, but have worked as a paraprofessional for the Vallivue School District and Nampa School District. I have known since I was in kindergarten that I have wanted to be a teacher. I graduated from Western Governors University in March 2023. My hobbies include being with my family. I have three children, two boys and one girl. I love all of them and work with them constantly on education activities. I have a supportive husband and he means the world to me. I love to read mystery books. My favorite mystery book is the Nancy Drew collection.
Melissa Mansfield
I am Melissa Mansfield and I just moved here from Sparks NV. I love to travel to Europe and camp at Lake Almanor, CA with my family. I have two nieces and three Australian Shepherd puppies. This is my 6th year teaching, and first year teaching 5th grade. I am so happy to be a part of the Carberry family!
Georgeann Tippy
Hello Carberry family! I’m Georgeann Tippy, Carberry's newest second grade teacher. I am thrilled and honored to join this amazing community! I have enjoyed several roles in service of children, including substitute teacher and district wide art teacher. For the last 16 years I have been working in special education. In this role I learned the importance and value of differentiated instruction. Meeting educational needs by discovering the best strategy for each student is incredibly satisfying!
Again, I’m so very happy to have this opportunity work with the wonderful students at Carberry!

School Board Elections - Make a Difference in Education!
We are looking for dedicated individuals to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and education in our community! The Emmett School District board is composed of six trustees elected by the public. These are volunteer positions receiving no monetary compensation but fulfilling a vital role that impacts so many. Three of these ESD school board seats are up for election this November.
We deeply appreciate the selfless service of our school board trustees. Serving on the school board is a rewarding volunteer position, as it allows you to contribute directly to the growth and development of our schools and students. If you have a passion for education and a genuine interest in the well-being of our students, we encourage you to consider running for the Emmett School District school board.
The process to become a candidate is simple! Paperwork for candidacy can be obtained at the Emmett School District office--119 N. Wardwell. If interested, please see Angela Mattingly (District Secretary and Clerk of the Board). She is your contact to answer any questions and accept the paperwork when completed. It's a simple process, but the deadline to submit the required paperwork is September 8.
Election day is set for November 7, when our community will cast their votes and decide who will be entrusted with shaping the future of education in our district.
If you're ready to be a positive force in education and make a real difference, we can't wait for you to join the journey as a school board trustee. Let's work together to ensure a bright future for our students and schools.
Library News From Mrs. Arnett
We will be starting off the school year by learning about library time, book care and choosing library books. Borrowing books will begin in early September. Please watch your student's Monday folder for information regarding their book day.
Reminder Parents: Dress Code in Handbook Page 5
Dress and Appearance
Extremes in dress and/or appearance can detract from the learning environment or become safety issues, and , therefore, should be avoided at school. Any type of personal adornment that becomes a disruptive influence in the school will be disallowed. Clothing and appearance should be appropriate to the season and within accepted community standards for the school environment.
Unacceptable attire includes Heelys (shoes with wheels), pajamas, see-through clothing, muscle shirts, tank tops, spaghetti straps, bare midriff tops, tights and leggings worn without a cover (cover must be at least fingertip length), jeans that are torn above the knees. Lycra, gym, swimming, or boxer shorts are not allowed. Shorts must be at least fingertip length. Clothing depicting illegal substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, as well as clothing that displays inappropriate language or is considered gang attire is not allowed. Head coverings (including hats, bandanas, hoods, visors, etc.) are not to be worn in the building during school hours. Students wearing clothing not allowed by the Elementary School's dress code will be asked to call parents for different attire.
ATTENDANCE AND GO HOME CHANGE OF PLANS
Please have your child to school by 8:30 am to keep their attendance record clean. If they come at 8:35 am or after they are considered tardy. If they are late, the doors will be locked and they will need to ring the bell to be allowed entrance into the building.
ABSENCES
Please call the office either before 8:15 am or after 9:00 am (the office is super busy during that time) if your child will be absent EVEN IF YOU'VE LET THE TEACHER KNOW. Teachers do not always have the opportunity to communicate with the office that a parent has informed them of an absence until the end of the day. You can also leave a message on the office voice mail the night before or before school starts. If you are going to be out of town, please let the teacher AND office know in advance.
GO HOME PLANS:
If the go home plan for your child changes, please either send a note with your child to give to the office stating the change of plans or call the office at 208-365-0839. If you call, you need to do so no later than 3:00 pm (2:00 pm for Early Release Fridays). We do not send notes to classes after this time and calls to classes after this time are very disruptive to teaching. Thank you for respecting and understanding this!
YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE GO HOME PLAN WITHOUT A NOTE, PHONE CALL, OR AT THE LAST MINUTE. Again, thank you for understanding!
Message From Mrs. Walton (PE)
Parents and Students,
Welcome to 2023-2024 PE! I am so excited to be able to teach your kids. I want to remind you that it is very important for your student to have the proper footwear for PE. Tennis shoes are required for the safety of your student, as well as the upkeep of our gymnasium. We are going to be outside quite a bit this fall, so please have your student dress for the weather. It's a little chilly in the morning and hot in the afternoon. I encourage your student to have a water bottle that they can bring to class with them so they can stay hydrated. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me, as I am not at my phone most of the day.
Thanks,
Katie Walton
