We are so excited to kick off the 2025-2026 school year at Wauwatosa Montessori School! The building is sparkling, the plans are almost set, and the building is too quiet! We tried to compile everything you might want to know in one comprehensive communication. We can't wait to see everyone on August 28th for Open House and Meet the Teacher and on September 2nd for the First Day of School!

• Our open house is a great opportunity to drop off school supplies, connect with the staff, get your school picture taken, sign up for the PTSA and gear up for the year! See details of how the night will flow below! Please note - we know that due to conflicts, you may not be able to follow our flow. We will be as flexible as possible that night!

• 4:00-4:30 pm New Family Information Session in Room 10

• 4:45-5:00 pm School Tours - for any new families that haven’t seen the building

• 5-5:30pm New Family Sessions in classroom (If you are new to our school or new to a classroom)

• Returning families may stop by their classroom at any time to drop off supplies and say hi!

• Stop By While at Open House

• Picture Day by VIP photography in the gym from 3:30-6:30pm (Make ups will be available during the school year for families unable to attend)

• Afterwards, you’ll be able to select your image for your yearbook and purchase any portraits, and all orders will be delivered to your home. To view and order photos from Picture Day click on the link and fill in the information needed: Picture and Yearbook Online Ordering. Or, you can search for them at vipis.com shortly after photos are taken. If you need further assistance, contact VIP at support@vipis.com.

• All ordering of pictures and yearbooks will be done online. This information will be in our first Weekly Newsletter, which comes out on Friday afternoons.

• Come grab a snack, learn about becoming a member, and find out what events the PTSA provides for families!

If your student checked out school library books at the end of the year and brought them home for the summer, you are invited to return them to the school library on Thursday evening Aug 28 or return them the first week of school.

We are sad to say goodbye to some of our staff members over the summer

• Hannah Agpoon will not be returning, as she accepted a classroom position of her own at another school. (A note from Hannah: I'm so grateful to have been part of the WMS community! Thank you to the students, families, and colleagues who made my time here so meaningful—I’ll carry those memories with me as I step into a new teaching role.)
• Jill Hollander will not be returning, as our need for music class time has increased and she has another part-time position that will no longer allow her to continue at Montessori.
• Gilly Brennan will not be returning, as she is pursuing a more artistic career outside of education.

• August 28 (3:30-6:30pm) - Stop by the PTSA table for a tasty treat and to chat with some of our members and board chairs.
• September 2 (8-9am) - Boo Hoo or Woo Hoo Parent Coffee Social. Join us for complementary coffee immediately following drop off on Tuesday, September 2nd, by the basketball court (weather permitting).
• September 16 (7-8:30pm) - Join us for our first PTSA meeting. Enter through the gym doors and meet in room 30 (AP room). All are welcome!

Our school is fundraising with Mabel’s Labels! If you’re not familiar with Mabel’s Labels, they are personalized, durable, waterproof labels. They are great for everything from shoes, clothing tags, water bottles and backpacks. You can customize them with your name and a design, and they are dishwasher, laundry and microwave safe. This is a great way to ensure your items don’t end up in the lost & found or mixed up.

Our Upper Elementary (4th-6th grade) students will be attending NCI again this fall! They will return to the Hartland campus from November 10th through November 14th. Stay tuned for more information and fundraising opportunities.

Many of you may have heard about the district’s new special, Discovery Lab, a STEM-based class for K–5 students. Because Montessori follows a unique instructional philosophy and program model, this special is not being offered to Montessori students for the 2025–2026 school year.

Over the next year, we will have the opportunity to observe and learn from the program’s rollout in other schools to determine if, and how, it might align with Montessori principles. This could mean adding the program in full, adapting certain components, or identifying specific lessons that complement our current curriculum.
