From the Principal's Desk
Dear Families,
As we continue to focus on Habit 1: Be Proactive, we have spent the past few weeks learning what it means to take responsibility for our choices and actions.
Over the past few weeks, we have learned that being proactive means understanding that we are in charge of our choices. We can choose our words, our attitude, our effort, and how we respond to different situations. We have learned that we can take responsibility instead of making excuses, be problem solvers, help others, and take action. Most importantly, we have learned that we do not have to wait for someone else to make a difference, we can be the difference!
Being proactive also means making responsible choices that help us succeed in school and in life. One of the most important choices students can make is attending school every day and arriving on time. Daily attendance helps students build strong academic skills, stay connected to classroom learning, participate in important discussions and activities, and develop positive relationships with teachers and classmates. Every school day is an opportunity to learn something new, practice important skills, and grow as a learner.
We also encourage families to plan vacations and extended trips during scheduled school breaks. When students miss school, they may miss lessons, classroom activities, and learning experiences that can be difficult to make up. Planning trips when school is not in session helps students maintain consistent attendance and stay on track with their learning.
Another important part of being proactive is taking care of our bodies and minds. Getting enough sleep each night helps students arrive at school rested, focused, and ready to learn. A consistent bedtime and a healthy nighttime routine can improve concentration, support memory, and help students manage their emotions throughout the school day. Establishing these habits at home can make a big difference in students' overall success.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our students practice Habit 1 both at school and at home. Together, we can encourage our children to make responsible choices, take ownership of their learning, and develop the habits they need to be successful.
Warmly,
Emily Varghese
