Principal's Corner

It has been such a fantastic week! I feel so privileged to be a part of this Maple Grove Family. A huge shout out to the Maple Grove Foundation, an outside organization that raises money to support our school. They donated the money to revitalize the school with a new paint job from Wisconsotta, that looks beautiful. To our PTO and families that fundraise for PTO, thank you for the fresh update of paint to our gym from Straight Line Painting and for the gorgeous landscaping around our chicken coop from Coleton Bloch Dirt Works. Also to the Flory family for donating your time and materials to create our gorgeous pollinator garden. Thank you to the Cyrtmus family for setting up our new rabbit space. Also, a thank you to our implementation grant that funded our new flooring from Maccos and our new digital sign from Graphic House. To ALL the staff for all your hard work and dedication already getting ready for this year making your classrooms ready and planning your curriculum. To our learners for your enthusiasm and continuous work on the C.R.I.S.P. traits and bringing your wonderful smiles each and everyday. To our families and community members for your support and trusting us to nurture and educate your most prized possessions! They say it takes a community and we have an amazing community surrounding Maple Grove Charter School. It is going to to a magnificent year at Maple Grove Charter School!

Arrival and Dismissal

Just a few reminders:

  • With the number of vehicles we have dropping off and picking up we cannot have cars waiting on Hwy L because of how busy it is. We are asking that if you are waiting in line that the line forms up Schoolhouse Road by the upper playground, so we don't clog up Hwy L.
  • If you are picking up or dropping off and want to walk your child to and from Door #1 please make sure they are by you as you walk. Please do not allow them to run ahead of you or let them walk down themselves as there are cars coming through that area they have to cross and walk alongside. Student safety is our number one priority.
  • The afternoon bus will be there at 2:55 waiting please make sure you pull in behind the bus as we will load that first. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with this new process.
  • Please have your yellow tag visible in your vehicle window. As the weeks progress, I will get better at recognizing the vehicles but still need those name tags as of now to guide me. If grandparents or others are picking your child up please also let the office know and give them a yellow tag for pick up. Ms. Byer would be happy to make extra tags if needed, just reach out to her on SeeSaw.

SeeSaw

SeeSaw will be our main form of communication with our families. If you haven't already signed up on SeeSaw please do so ASAP. If you need a new QR code please reach out to your child's teacher, they would be more than willing to help. Here is where teachers and parents can communicate one on one through private messaging. A teacher can post reminders, pictures, updates, and learners can post pictures and videos of their work. As parents please feel free to comment on your child's posts; they LOVE hearing from you! If you need ANY help setting this up please just let any of us know and we would be more than happy to help!

You will also receive emails after pictures to see if you like them and want to order or retakes will be Oct. 23.

Raptor

For any guests, visitors, volunteers we will ask them to sign in using our Raptor system. This system is also used to sign your child out or back in if they are arriving late or getting picked up early. This is located in our main office. You will need your drivers license with you to sign in.

Recess and Rain Gear

At MGCS we do still go out for recess and outdoor labs if it is raining out. Of course, if it thunder or lightening or downpouring we will not but a sprinkle or light rain we will still head outdoors. With that said, please send the appropriate clothing like a raincoat and puddle boots. Puddle boots are also a good idea to keep at school as the woods can get pretty muddy in the fall and spring time and that way their shoes aren't tracking mud on all the classroom carpets.

Change of Transportation Plans

If you have a change of end of the day pick-up please contact Ms. Byer at 715-257-2199 by 2:15. She will be letting classroom teachers know at that time so they can also prepare for end of the day departure. Thank you for helping out with this process!

Reading Logs

Your child has or will be bringing home a reading calendar. Research shows that children who read or are read to 15-20 minutes each day have improved academics, language, writing, imagination, family connections, and perseverance. All learners learn in their own way and their own pace. Therefore, learners will be sitting down with their teacher 1-1 to create a monthly reading goal. This will be based on their input and reading abilities. As parents you will see how this goal fits your child best as the month goes on. If it is a too lofty goal or too simplistic goal please talk to your child about your thoughts and communicate with their teacher. As your child's teacher gets to know them better in the first couple of months they will be able to better help them set their goals. You will then sign the calendar only once a week. Each week your child will then track their goals to see if they are on target to meet their total goal. You can also help by talking to your child about goals you might set for yourself and how you track and work to make sure you continue to work towards it. It's great for your child to see goal setting is a life skill. If your child brings their logs back at the end of the month signed and their goal is met they will participate in a bimonthly reading incentive activity as a whole school.

Chromebooks

New practice this year...You asked and we listened. All learners will have a 1-1 chrome book available to them this year but ALL Chromebook will REMAIN at School. Our teachers do not send homework to be done on the Chromebook so your child won't need them at home. There may be an exception or special activity/assignment but that would be communicated ahead of time. This will also help to keep our Chromebooks in the best possible condition and ensure they are charged and ready for class.

PTO

Come one, Come ALL! Maple Grove Charter School will be establishing our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) this Monday, Sept. 9. If you are interested in helping out but cannot make the meeting please let Mrs. Hanson know. We are looking forward to seeing many of you there!
