Mrs. Smith’s Snapchat…

Hello Lakeside Parents and Guardians,

Welcome Back! Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. This past week, our staff has been teaching C.O.R.E. principles in Warren. The acronym C.O.R.E. standards for Civility, Order, Respect, and Excellence. C.O.R.E is what we stand for at Lakeside and in the entire Warren Township community. We are explicitly teaching expected behaviors from the time students get on the bus in the morning and until the time they get off the bus in the afternoon. Each student will be expected to know the desired behaviors and will be responsible for doing his/her part in helping school staff in developing a safe and positive environment for everyone. We will also appreciate your support with C.O.R.E. at home! In particular, I sincerely appreciate how well drop-off and pick-up have gone this week. Safety and security are paramount each and every day, and I thank you for your efforts with ensuring expectations are respected. Furthermore, if you are on Twitter and/or Facebook, please follow us.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Smith

Background Checks

For the safety of our children, a background check must be done on anyone who volunteers at schools or chaperones on field trips. Once a person is approved, the background check is valid for two schools years. Please get this form from your child’s teacher and return to the school office with a copy of your ID

Attendance Matters, Facts Matters, Information Matters

1. Absenteeism and its ill effects start early. One in 10 kindergarten and first-grade students are chronically absent. Read more...

2. Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back. Read more...

3. Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. Read more...

4. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating. Read more...

CAR RIDERS/DAYCARE Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures

We ask that our parents follow these guidelines to ensure that every student has a safe arrival and dismissal:

All students will be required to be dropped off and picked up through the car rider line to maintain safety standards. Parking at the front and East end of the building and walking children to and from the entrances will not be allowed. We want to prevent children and adults walking through the path of cars or buses on the property at any time.

Staff members will be present outside beginning at 7:55 a.m. each morning for student drop-off. Please do not release your children until a staff member signals the beginning of our process. Students will not be counted tardy until 8:05 a.m. Our afternoon pick-up procedures will begin at 3:00 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you are encouraged to be at or near the front of the line. We will implement our dismissal procedures as quickly and safely as possible for all.

Thank you very much for your support with helping ensure Lakeside maintains safety as our priority during our student entrance and dismissal each day!

DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR CAR RIDER SIGN IN THE FRONT OFFICE!!

SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLICATIONS/ NEWS MEDIA USE FOR STUDENTS

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child’s school. This may include your child’s photo, your child’s name or your child’s work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child’s achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child’s school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.

In compliance with the district's wellness policy, please DO NOT send in a food item for your child's birthday. School Visits

In an effort to keep all students safe anyone wanting to visit the classroom, have lunch with a child, and/or go on field trips must visit the front office to complete a background check. Please bring an ID at that time. Visits are limited to 30 minutes throughout the day. During those 30 minutes, parents are not able to talk with teachers. We do not want to interrupt class time. If you are wanting to meet with a teacher please schedule that with the teacher prior to you visiting the school. Again, we do not want to interrupt instruction time.
