Principals' Message
Dear PVM Families,
It has been a great last few weeks of working with students at Pleasant Valley. We are seeing lots of positive academic progress as our teachers and students are fully into the groove of learning. The first term is wrapping up and we now have two positive academic markers, i-Ready scores and grades, to support additional educational interventions at the middle school level. Our talented staff is working hard to know each student by "Name, Strength and Need". We believe in this mission and philosophy to ensure each student is getting the support they need to be successful.
Our conferences are the first week of November and we look forward to seeing your family at Pleasant Valley. This should be a fun and productive event with a chance to collaborate with your child’s teacher. Correspondence for sign ups will be coming out soon. We look forward to visiting with you at PVM.
On a final note, our Pleasant Valley campus has the most amazing PTA in the Vancouver area. We are so lucky to have their support and backing for our schools. Through their dedicated work and outreach we are provided amazing opportunities and support for our PVM students. Our PTA supports our Patriot Store for PBIS, sponsors amazing events at school and makes sure our teachers are taken care of as well. We highly encourage you to become a PTA member and work to actively support our fundraising efforts at school. Please reach out to PVM directly or to pvptapresidents@gmail.com if you have any questions about how to become a member, how to support an upcoming event, volunteering or how to donate. We very much look forward to your participation and partnership with all elements of learning at Pleasant Valley.

Expectations for students attending middle school & Dist. Stadium sports events
This is just a reminder of expectations for students during attendance at middle school sports events and district expectations for attendance at events at the District Stadium.
Requirements for student attendance at middle school sports games
- Students who will be attending sports events as a spectator at the middle school will need to go home after school and return for the game later. We do not have supervision for students to stay after until the game.
- Students attending games will need to be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older who will be responsible for the student(s) for the duration of the event. The adult cannot be a high school student.
- Students will need to remain inside the gym while they are on campus.
- All attendees should exhibit good sportsmanship and follow school expectations for behavior.
Requirements for middle/primary school students attending athletic events at District Stadium
- As of September 1, 2023 any primary or middle student attending athletic events at District Stadium must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older who will be responsible for the student(s) for the duration of the event. The adult cannot be a high school student. Primary and middle school students will not be allowed to enter if they are not accompanied by an adult.
- In addition, only clear bags are allowed into District Stadium. Students will need to leave all backpacks and bags that are not clear at home. The school district will not be responsible for any student bags that are lost, stolen or not allowed in the stadium.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to ensure that all students and spectators are able to enjoy BGPS events.
Picture retake day - Monday, October 28th
ASB popcorn + fundraiser Nov. 3rd - 22nd
Students will start collecting orders for popcorn, gluten-free baking mixes, coffee, a tote bag, and salt water taffy on Nov. 3rd. ** Orders and payment are made online only; we will have a link and QR code to the order page in the next newsletter, as well as with the order forms that go home with students. Please consider ordering some yummy treats to enjoy, while also supporting the fun things ASB does for our students.
The popcorn + sale will run from Nov. 3rd through Nov. 22nd. Items purchased will be sent home (or pick up arranged) some time on or just after December 10th.
*** IMPORTANT: Be sure to enter the student name you are ordering popcorn from so we can be sure they get your order for delivery to you. If a student name is not entered, we will not know how to get your order to you.***

ASB Halloween costume contest Oct. 31st
Ok Patriots, it is almost time for our ASB Halloween costume contest! We hope everyone is getting creative and gathering items for some great costumes. The ASB will be calling students down in groups for photos for the yearbook and judging on Thursday, October 31st. Costume guidelines are listed below:
- Costumes must conform to our regular District appropriate dress guidelines
- Masks may only be worn during ASB judging/photos, no masks or other face coverings during and between classes
- Costumes and makeup must be completed at home; students will not have time at school to apply makeup or complete costumes
- Costumes must not be overly gory or frightening, as we share a campus with primary school students and some who may be upset by these types of outfits
- No weapons, real or cosplay
- Costumes must not contain/portray references to weapons, gangs, drugs/alcohol etc
- Costumes should not disrupt the classroom learning environment (ie. noises, flashing lights etc)
- Remember, you still have to be able to safely navigate the school and sit at your desk, so keep that in mind when designing your costume

Notes from the Nurse
Vaccination updates. Life threatening medical condition/allergy.
Hello PVM families!
Nurses are reviewing student vaccination records and will be sending out letters to families who have students out of compliance with vaccination requirements. Students entering the 7th grade are due for a TDaP booster vaccination. If your child has had updated vaccinations recently, please be sure to get record of the vaccination(s) to our nurses so we may update them in Skyward. Nurses will notify affected families about upcoming exclusion dates, if necessary.
WA immunization requirements
Life threatening health condition/allergy
If your student has a life threatening medical condition/allergy, we must have updated health information each year as well as medication at school forms for any rescue medications that need to be kept at the nurse's office at school. Parents and nurses work together to create an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for what to do for your child in the case of a medical emergency. Please contact our nurses if your student has a life threatening medical condition/allergy and you have not already alerted the school and had an EAP created. Students and parents will need to meet with nurses before a student may self-carry any rescue medications.

Updating contact and health information
Parents/guardians please make sure you are updating the School Health Form in Skyward each year so that we have correct and current information regarding your child/ren (complete the "Update" in Skyward Family Access. Update opens August 1st each year to update school forms.). Skyward does not pull information forward each school year. There are many School Health Forms that have not been updated for 2-4 years. We need current information and this is how we most often know if your child has a Life threatening health condition. We want to keep your child/ren safe while at school and we can't do our job if we do not have correct and updated information.
Thank you for your time in this important matter.
From your School Nurse Janel Salisbury, BSN, RN & Building Nurse Diane Davis, LPN
