New Family Registration
A Message From Mr. Ladenburger
Our curriculum night is on Thursday, September 4. Each homeroom teacher will give two identical presentations. Each presentation will be the same so you only need to attend one of them. Our first presentation will start at 6:30 p.m. and our second presentation will start at 7:00 p.m. All staff members will be located in their classrooms with the exception of the teams that are outlined below.
- Our entire specials team and P.E. teachers will be located in the art room, room 3106.
- Mrs. Baughman, Miss Hood, Miss Gorman and Ms. Rychlik will be located in room 3215.
- Miss Ling and Mrs. Rollinger will be located in room 3228.
If your child will be absent from school because of illness, doctor's appointments, or for any other reason, please report it to the school office by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the absence by completing the form linked below. While the online form is preferred, you may also call in the absence to the front office at 847-388-3700 (option 2).
MAP Testing
All students will take the NWEA MAP assessment in reading and math on Monday, September 8, and Tuesday, September 9. Testing will begin first thing in the morning, so please ensure your child arrives on time with a fully charged Chromebook. Each session will last 75 minutes. If additional time is needed, students will be scheduled to finish during a second session.
Wednesday Early Release Reminder
As a reminder to families, every Wednesday throughout the school year, students are released 30 minutes early so our teachers and staff may participate in professional learning. Any changes to your child's Wednesday dismissal plan need to be communicated by 2:15 p.m. The sooner we know the better!
- Students Getting Picked Up at 3:08 p.m.- We will begin the parent pick up process at 3:00 p.m. If you have any changes, please email Robin Fine at rfine@fsd79.org and your child's homeroom teacher.
- Students Riding the Bus Home at 3:08 p.m. - We will begin the bus dismissal at 3:08 p.m. Parents/Guardians can expect buses to arrive approximately 30 minutes earlier than typically expected. If you have any changes, please email Robin Fine at rfine@fsd79.org and your child's homeroom teacher.
As a reminder to families whose children are participating in the no-cost Wednesday Right at School after-school program, that program will not begin until September 10. Please plan accordingly to have your child take bus transportation home or have parent pick-up at the end of the school day on September 3.
Mass Notification Test Follow-up
On Thursday, August 28, the District performed an annual test of its mass notification system. If you did not receive an email, text message, or automated phone call notification, please complete this form. Please confirm your preferred email address and phone number are current in TeacherEase. If you need to update your contact information, please contact the school.
Attendance Matters
Attendance is crucial. Regular attendance fosters dependability, responsibility, and academic achievement. Students who attend
Consistently stay on track,
Engage fully with lessons,
Participate in discussions,
Collaborate with peers, and
Receive timely feedback from teachers.
This active participation improves understanding, retention, and overall performance. At FSD79, we prioritize attendance to create a supportive environment where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. Our goal is to support all students and ensure equitable access to education.
“Away for the Day” – Device Expectations
To support a learning-focused environment, we will continue our “Away for the Day” initiative in accordance with the Portable Electronic Equipment Policy (Board Policy 7:190).
Here are a few important reminders:
Cell phones must be turned off and kept in a Chromebook bag or sleeve during the school day.
Smartwatches should be in school mode and used only as a watch.
Devices are not permitted during class time, in hallways, bathrooms, lunch, or recess.
Students needing to contact a parent or guardian should use the main office phone.
Exceptions may be made if outlined in a student’s IEP or 504 Plan.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
