NEW Updates & Announcements
New Tardy Policy Reminder
Students are encouraged to arrive to school in time to move through the scanner system and get to class prior to the tardy bell ringing. We have monitored students entering through the scanners and there is plenty of time for all students to make to class on time. These tardies can result in warnings, after school detention, or parking pass restrictions (for student drivers).
Attendance FAQs
This is a friendly reminder that our Attendance Office requires 24 to 48 hours to update student attendance. For example, if a parent makes a request on Thursday, January 4, 2024, you can expect to see the student's attendance updated no later than Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about attendance:
- Are vacations and family trips excusable? Family trips and vacations are not excusable and will be marked as unexcused.
- What information do I need to include when I am requesting that my student's tardy or absence be excused. If you are emailing our attendance office (BFHS-Attendance@pwcs.edu), include the full legal name of your student and/or their student ID number, and the reason for the tardy or absence. If you are using ParentVUE, the reason for the absence must be included in your request. ParentVUE is only for ALL day absences only and cannot be used for tardies.
- What information do I need to include when I am requesting an early dismissal? To request an early dismissal, email our attendance office (BFHS-Attendance@pwcs.edu) at least an hour in advance. Include your student's full legal name and/or their student ID number, and the reason for the early dismissal. This is the most efficient and preferred way for your student to be dismissed early.
- Are there school days during which "nothing is going on" (e.g. the days leading up to a break) or your student reports that it is a "skip day" and it is okay to keep my student at home? There are no days in which "nothing is going on" or skip days. Unless your student is missing school for an excusable reason (e.g. illness, medical appointment), they should be in school every day right up through the first day of final exams.
- Can my student be excused from school immediately before or after a break--like winter break? Regulation 724-1: Attendance and Excuses does not allow schools to excuse absences immediately before or after a break.

This is a reminder that Boys & Girls State Applications are due January 19, 2024 at 2:15 PM.
PROGRAM INFORMATION: Virginia Boys State and Girls State are immersive programs designed to provide the opportunity for attendees to gain hands-on experience in one of three areas of government (Executive, Judicial, and Legislative) as well as at the town/local level. Attendees are organized into towns where they join political parties, run for local and state-wide offices, participate in simulated government experiences, and learn the innerworkings of our political system. During the program attendees will have the opportunity to hear from and meet local and State government officials. Attendees come away from the program with a deep understanding of the functions of government, cultivate leadership skills and develop pride in American citizenship. Programs are only open to rising Seniors (those currently in their third year of high school, graduating in 2025).
