BACK TO SCHOOL CAT TRACKS
School Year 2025 - 2026
Principal's Welcome
Welcome Back, Wildcats!
Dear Chisago Lakes High School Students, Families, and Community,
It is a privilege to welcome you to a new school year at Chisago Lakes High School. As I begin my first year serving as principal, I want to share how excited and grateful I am to become part of this outstanding school community.
Over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to meet many of our students, staff members, families, and community members. Everywhere I have gone, I have been welcomed with kindness, pride, and an unmistakable commitment to supporting our students. It has quickly become clear that Chisago Lakes High School has earned its strong reputation because of the people who make up this community. I am honored to join that team.
As we begin this school year together, my commitment is simple. I will work each day to support our students, our staff, and our families while continuing to build upon the excellent foundation that already exists. Great schools are built through strong relationships, high expectations, and a shared belief that every student can learn, grow, and succeed when provided with the opportunity and support to do so. Those values will continue to guide our work throughout the year.
Our teachers and staff have been working hard throughout the summer preparing classrooms, refining instruction, and planning meaningful learning experiences for students. I cannot wait to welcome our Wildcats back into the building and see our classrooms, hallways, athletic facilities, performance spaces, and activity areas filled with the energy that comes with a new school year.
Families are essential partners in the success of our students. We know that students achieve more when schools and families work together with open communication and shared purpose. I encourage you to stay connected throughout the year by attending school events, communicating with teachers and staff, and celebrating the many accomplishments of our students. Together, we can provide an exceptional educational experience for every Wildcat.
Our first day of school is September 1, 2026. Please take a few minutes to review the information included throughout this newsletter, as it contains important details to help your family prepare for a successful start to the school year.
If you have questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 651-213-2500. We are here to help and look forward to partnering with you throughout the year.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Chisago Lakes community. I am excited for all that lies ahead, and I look forward to a fantastic year together.
Go Wildcats!

CLHS Attendace Policy/Procedures
CLHS Student Attendance Policy Highlights
Regular attendance is the foundation of a successful school experience and essential to the educational program at CLHS. Classroom experiences are valuable and essential. Time lost from class cannot be regained, and absences will result in the loss of valuable opportunities to learn. Research has clearly indicated that the amount of time a student is involved in instruction has a direct relationship to a student's academic achievement.
- Excused Absences – please make every attempt to schedule appointments before school, at lunch break or after school. Examples of excused absences are illness, family emergencies, & scheduled appointments. Absences may be verified for authentication if needed. **Inclement weather may be considered an excused absence at parent/guardian request
- Unexcused Absences - An unexcused absence is an absence for reasons that are not recognized by the school authorities as legitimate or no reason is given within the 3 day time-frame. An absence not excused by note, email, ParentVue or phone call WITHIN 3 SCHOOL DAYS of the absence will be recorded as unexcused and cannot be changed per Chisago County Attendance Policy/Law.
Examples of unexcused absence/tardiness:
- personal (no reason given)
- car trouble (students will be allowed 1 absence or late due to car trouble per yr.)
- overslept; alarm did not work
- missed school bus
- needed at home; babysitting/care for siblings
- leaving school during regular school hours without prior approval
- work
- no phone call, note or e-mail communication from parent/guardian verifying the absence within 3 days
Tardies - Teachers will report tardies to record patterns of habitual tardiness.
Tardies of 15 minutes or more will become unexcused absences. Students who accumulate excessive tardies or unexcused absences in each term will be subject to the following:
- 4 tardies per term: letter sent home each term
- 6 tardies per term: lunch detention assigned
- 10 tardies per term: 1 hour of detention assigned
Attendance Procedure
Parents/Guardians calling their student in for an absence, requesting an early release for their student, or reporting a late arrival for their student can do so in three ways:
- Online using Parent Vue
- Send a note with your student to be given to Attendance
- Send an email (hsattendance@isd2144.org) or call the attendance line (651-213-2513).
- When calling - Leave a message on the attendance line, with your student's name and reason for absence. If leaving early or arriving late, please note the requested/reported time. Messages are checked continuously throughout the day. LEAVE a message. DO NOT call the main line if the attendance line is not answered.
STUDENTS LEAVING EARLY: You can request an early release using one of the above methods. Once the message is received, the following process is followed:
- Your student will receive a green release pass from attendance to leave class and the building. Students may NOT leave the building without a pass from attendance.
- Please request an early release for your student with enough advance notice to allow them time to receive a pass. To minimize classroom disruptions, students generally receive their pass to leave during passing time rather than during instructional time.
- Parents do not need to enter the building to pick up their student. Students with a green pass will be allowed to exit the building. All students will be required to scan out using their student ID card or the barcode in their StudentVue account found on their phone.
- Students should be picked up during the day from the front door (Door#1)
- If your student drives, they may leave from door 17
STUDENTS ARRIVING LATE: Students arriving late will need to be excused for the times they have been absent using one of the 3 above-mentioned processes. Students will be unexcused until an excused reason is given. Students who are arriving at school more than 10 minutes late or later during the school day from an appointment will report to the attendance office after entering the building to receive an orange admit pass. Students are not admitted to class without a tardy slip or admit pass.
Absence Reason "Personal"
When using the reason "Personal," a reason must be submitted in order for the absence to be marked as excused. Per Chisago County, Every Day Matters! Attendance Protocol. Any absence that is called in as "Personal" with no reason given will be considered unexcused.
Any questions regarding Attendance, please reach out to Heather Turner

Chisago Lakes High School Personal Electronic Devices and Technology Use Policy
- Cell phones and earbuds may be appropriately used on school campus before and after school, during passing time, or during their lunch break, provided that such use does not disrupt the education program or school activity.
- In the case of medical necessity, an IEP, or 504 Plan, students would have a cell phone use plan in place that would be communicated with school staff.
- Permission may be granted to use devices on occasion by staff for educational purposes only.
- All electronic device use is prohibited in all bathroom and locker room areas.
- Students are never allowed to record pictures or videos of students or adults without consent. The recording of, distribution, or redistribution of unapproved or illicit data or images will result in disciplinary action. Smart glasses, wearable cameras, and other recording-enabled wearable devices (including Meta/Ray-Ban smart glasses) may not be worn or used during class time, including PAWZ, unless specifically authorized by staff for an educational purpose. Any audio, video, or image recording during the school day must comply with school expectations regarding consent and privacy. Recording in classrooms, bathrooms, locker rooms, or other school spaces without permission is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action.
- During class time, including PAWZ, personal electronic devices and wearable technology (including cell phones, earbuds, smart glasses, and similar devices) may not be used and should be stowed away and not visible to staff members.
- Some classrooms/teachers may expect students to stow their phones in a cell phone holder.
- Students may wear smartwatches during class unless they are being misused. Smart glasses, wearable cameras, or other recording-enabled wearable devices may not be used during class and may only be worn if recording functions are disabled and the device is not being used. Staff may require any wearable technology to be removed or put away if it disrupts learning, violates privacy expectations, or is being misused.
- School administration reserves the right to confiscate student cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches or smart glasses throughout the school day as a result of disciplinary issues/concerns.
- At no time is Chisago Lakes High School responsible for lost or stolen personal items, earbuds, smart glasses, or cell phones and may not be able to provide staff time to investigate and recover lost or stolen items.
- Administration has the right to modify the personal electronic devices and technology policy during the school year.
Misuse of Personal Electronic Devices and Technology Use Policy

In structured study, students will be expected to turn in their phone/earbuds/smartwatch/smart glasses for the remainder of the block. The student will be entered into the technology violation log. The technology violation log will notify Administration of a third referral. Administration will meet with the student to discuss repeated violations and determine appropriate consequences at that time.
Students who continue to earn technology violations beyond the third offense will meet with administration and their parent(s)/guardian(s) to develop a plan for support and accountability. Additional consequences may be determined based on the student's individual circumstances and pattern of violations.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Chisago Lakes High School continues to participate in the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Chromebooks or basic laptops are the preferred devices, and Chrome is our preferred browser, as many of our programs are integrated with the Google Chrome platform. Personal devices should be charged each evening to ensure they are ready for the school day. Students are encouraged to carry a charger with them during the school day to ensure their devices can be charged if needed.
School Owned Device Lease Option
As a part of our Bring-Your-Own-Device program, students in grades 6-12 are required to have their own device at school each day. Families have the option to check-out a school-owned technology device from the Chisago Lakes School District for learning. We have options for families experiencing financial hardship to lessen the burden of the cost of a device and provide their student an educational device to use for the current school year.
School-owned devices filter the internet at a basic level, regardless of their location or wireless network, to provide students a safe online environment. Parents are encouraged to be active participants in their student’s learning. We expect students to be using their school-provided @isd2144.org account and encourage parents to talk with their students about access to their login information. When you borrow a device from school you are agreeing to report any problems or damage to your student's teacher or building admin.
Students are responsible for negligent damages outside of normal, average everyday use. Common Chromebook repair costs are $20 for a charger, $60 for a screen and $325 for a full replacement. Other damages will be billed to families at cost.
You will be required to sign a form agreeing to have your student return the device and charger to school at the end of the school year, or earlier if your student is un-enrolled from Chisago Lakes School District or Wildcat Academy. Additional details will be communicated to your student regarding device return within a month of the end the school year.

Chisago Lakes Incident Response Protocol
Our school has adopted the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and using the protocol.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all-hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.
Click here to visit the District Website to learn more about the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP).

Food Service
Minnesota Free Meals Program Continues for the 2026-27 School Year
Chisago Lakes School District continues to participate in the Minnesota Free Meals Program which provides reimbursement to schools so that students can have one breakfast and one lunch at no cost during the school day. Although no application is required to receive this free meal benefit, filling out the Application for Educational Benefits is necessary to qualify for exemption from class fees and to be considered for free/reduced athletics and technology. Families must complete the educational benefits application AND the waiver form to be considered for free/reduced fees.
What is NOT included in the MN Free School Meals Program?
Students must have a positive balance in their account or cash to purchase non-reimbursable items
Single-item purchases and non-reimbursable meals are not free. Some examples include:
Extra carton of milk (One carton of milk is included in the free reimbursable meal. If a student brings a lunch from home or would like an additional milk, it must be purchased)
Second breakfast or second lunch
Extra portions (mega bites)
Snack Items/a-la carte
.
Special Diet Accomodations
Please note that diet accommodations remain in effect from one school year to the next unless we are notified otherwise. Weekly Lunch Schedule
Parents can access the weekly lunch schedule online. Parents can place money into students' lunch accounts using the online PayPams system or send cash/check to be deposited. Envelopes for lunch deposits are located in the front office of the high school.
Health Office/School Nurse
Leaving School Due to Illness
If a student becomes ill during the school day, they must come to the Health Office. If your student is contacting you because they aren’t feeling well, please advise them to come to the health room to be excused. The following process should be followed for students feeling ill during the school:
- Obtain a pass from the teacher/staff before going to the health room. The health office process includes assessing the student’s overall health, taking a temperature, and documenting symptoms.
- A parent/guardian will then be contacted by Health Office staff for permission to release the student or arrange parent/guardian pickup. This process ensures accurate documentation that is required by the state and helps us best support student health and attendance. At that time, the student will be marked absent due to illness. (Excused Absence)
Important: If a parent/guardian calls the student out before the student is seen in the Health Office, the absence will be recorded as a parent-excused absence, not illness-related.
Immunization Information
All students in Chisago Lakes Schools must comply with Minnesota Immunization Laws. All immunizations need to be up-to-date, prior to the start of the school year. An immunization form is available from the health office or click here for a copy of the immunization form.
Exemptions to school immunization laws include medical and conscientious exemptions.
Student Medication
Whenever possible, the parent or guardian should make arrangements so that it is not necessary for school personnel to administer a medication to a student. However, there are cases when a student's health could be compromised by not getting medication during school hours. When sending any prescription or nonprescription medication to school each year, parents must send:
- Written parent permission (see Administration form) authorizing school personnel to administer medication.
- A written order from the physician (see Administration form) indicating the necessity of any (prescription or over-the counter) medication, including dose and how often it can be given. The physician may fax the order to the school.
- The original labeled container of the medication. For prescription medication, the pharmacist will supply a duplicate labeled container so one can be kept at home and one can be kept at school. Each container should have the phone number of the pharmacy, student's name, physician's name, medication's name, dosage, time to be given, and route (oral, inhaled, etc.).
