Tell us about a staff member you want to celebrate!
Each month, the district will feature a staff member in our Staff Shoutout series. Staff members can be nominated by students, parents/caregivers, and colleagues for outstanding positive contributions to our schools using the simple form at www.monomoy.edu/staffshoutout. Nominations for October are now open! Any staff members nominated in September can be nominated again, except for the honoree, Jessica Friedman of MRHS.
Important message from the Health Office: Request for updates
As we prepare to support your child’s health needs for the school year, we kindly ask that you provide updated medical documentation for students who carry epinephrine auto-injectors or epinephrine nasal spray, inhalers, or require other emergency medications.
Please submit the following as soon as possible:
- A current prescribing provider’s order for the medication (e.g., epinephrine, inhaler)
- An up-to-date Allergy Action Plan or Asthma Action Plan, as applicable
You may request the provider fax the orders directly to the health office at: (508) 430-7241.
We will also need a parent/guardian to fill out the Parent Authorization Form and return to the health office as well.
Lastly, in order for the nurses to be able to administer any over the counter medications, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen, we will need the online Returning Student Registration to be completed through your Aspen account. This consent needs to be completed each school year. Please log in to your Aspen account, click on Returning Student Registration, and complete the Health portion. Don’t forget to hit submit! 🙂
Thank you for your attention to these important matters, and for helping us keep your child safe. Please reach out via phone (508) 430-7200 x3 or email (mrhs_nurse@monomoy.edu) with any questions or concerns.

Monomoy student Solomon Antar wins first place at Protect Our Past film festival
The Protect Our Past film festival on October 4 featured film screenings, special guests, and film contest awards given out that honor local filmmakers and students. Monomoy Regional High School senior Solomon Antar won first place at the festival for his short film. Ellen Briggs and David Allen of Protect Our Past visited the high school to personally present Solomon with a certificate and the $500 first place prize.
Protect Our Past surprises student Solomon Antar with first-prize award for film festival
Festival entrants were asked to tell a powerful story about a historic home (75+ years old) that was saved, needs saving, or is being restored; the preservation/conservation of Cape Cod’s architectural or cultural history; a historic house with a surprising or personal story; the restoration journey of a beloved structure; or how preservation links to conservation and sustainability.
Solomon’s film depicted historic homes in Sandwich, including the Hoxie House and the Wing Fort House. He studies digital media and film production with teacher Steve Cass at MRHS.
Protect Our Past is a nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding Cape Cod’s historic places, cultural heritage and community identity through education, advocacy and action. More about the group can be found at protectourpast.org.
Monomoy Students earn Girl Scouts Gold Awards
MRHS Seniors McKenna Carchedi and Natalie Sims have both earned prestigious Gold Awards from the Girls Scouts.
To earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, a scout must identify an issue in their community, come up with a substantial plan to address the root cause. Once their project is complete she needs to ensure that it has made a sustainable impact to her community that will last beyond her involvement. The Gold Award requires a minimum of 80 hours work, and it is the highest and most prestigious award a Girl Scout can achieve.
McKenna's project focused on Shark Awareness & Safety. She teamed up with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, and she educated approximately 300 local children about sharks. The children learned that sharks are an essential function of our overall ecosystem, and provided safety information to keep them safe in the ocean.
Natalie's project focused on Beauty Standards Awareness. She acknowledged that many individuals struggle with body image issues, largely due to unrealistic standards set by altered images in popular media. Her presentations pointed out how deceiving images can be, and she provided coping strategies and mental health resources to those who were interested. "
Congratulations!
Welcome to i-Ready (Grade 8)
This year, MRSD is using a new tool called i-Ready for student testing in grades K-8 (replacing the MAP tool used previously), as well as for math instruction in Grades K-5. i-Ready will help teachers determine students’ opportunities for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows teachers to meet students exactly where they are, provides data to increase student learning gains, and offers lessons based on individual skill level and areas for improvement, so students can learn at a pace that is just right for them. To learn more about i-Ready, visit i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.

sexual abuse and exploitation. The Teen TASK Force provides the tools for teens to advocate for peers
seeking help and to raise awareness of the supports and services of Children’s Cove. TASK Force
members meet throughout the school year, learn about issues facing our community, as well as
