The Call
Feb.2-6, 2026
January arrived full of fresh goals and new plans—and closed out with a chill like no other. We hope everyone stayed safe and warm during the winter weather.
Thank you to the families who joined our quick chat on Friday. It felt a bit like stepping back into the days of COVID virtual meetings, but it was a wonderful opportunity to give you a glimpse into what we do day-to-day during our morning show, and to simply say hello and connect with you.
As we return this week, let’s extend sincere appreciation to our building support crew. They braved the bitter cold for hours, clearing our walkways step-by-step. We are also grateful for the reinforcements who arrived on Sunday to finish clearing the parking lot.
This week, we proudly celebrate our amazing school counselors. Please join us in showing appreciation—through a kind email or a small token of gratitude—for
Ms. Hooper, Ms. Melton, Mr. Minix, and Ms. Curry. Their work supports every child, every day.
As we prepare to enter Quarter 3, it is important to keep a close eye on your child’s progress. If you notice growth—or areas where your child may be regressing—please reach out. Ask questions. Schedule a conference. We are truly in this together.
Finally, we invite you to take a look at our School Performance Progress. We look forward to sharing more details during our MCAP Night: Take 2 coming in March, as well as our PK–5 Refresher event.
Stay cozy, stay warm, and thank you for your continued partnership.
Ms. Lattimore

Philosophy (Pre-Kindergarten)
At Colin Powell Academy, the early years are the foundation for lifelong learning. In Pre-K, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. We implement effective early childhood practices that support the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Our staff applies best practices for teaching and learning while celebrating diversity and ensuring that all children, regardless of ability, are welcomed, valued, and supported. Families are essential partners in each child’s growth and success.
