Michigan Child Protection Registry
Michigan students are increasingly exposed to adult-oriented advertising for alcohol, tobacco, pornography, illegal drugs, and gambling. These messages can reach children through email, text, and popular apps such as Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Discord, TikTok, Twitch, and Twitter.
To support families in protecting children from inappropriate digital content, the State of Michigan provides a free resource: the Michigan Child Protection Registry. This do-not-contact service blocks adult advertising from reaching registered email addresses, phone numbers, and social media accounts. Families can learn more and enroll at www.ProtectMIChild.com.
Share Your Voice: Michigan School Cellphone Policy Study
Researchers at the University of Michigan are hosting online focus groups this fall with parents and students ages 13-18 on their experiences with school cell phone policies. Focus groups for students and parents are hosted separately and all participants will receive a $25 electronic gift card. Click here to learn more and sign up.
From the Counselors
Additional Student Support for Seniors
The Counseling Department continues to support the Application Month initiative from October. Seniors are completing applications to post-secondary institutions and the FAFSA. Once students have completed their portion of the FAFSA, they can invite their contributor (parent or guardian) to complete their part. (FAFSA checklist)
Counselors are continuing drop-in support for seniors. We will be available in the Community Room (across from our office) 2nd and 3rd hours every Thursday until Thanksgiving to help seniors no matter where they are in their process. (Career Exploration, College Applications, Financial Aid, Scholarships etc.).
Mental Health Resources
CVHS counselors know that mental health can impact school. We work with students to help and problem-solve in times of personal/social challenges. Students can sign up to see their counselor at any time using QR codes around the school or on our website. We can offer our own support or additional resources for outside counseling/services if necessary. We are here to support ALL our students.
Free SAT Bootcamp (Juniors)
Prepare for the best possible SAT score with FREE Virtual Bootcamps. The online tutors are high school students who scored in the 95th percentile or above on the section they teach. All tutors are freshly familiar with the SAT, fully trained and certified, and eager to help you reach your goals.
New sessions are available every week. More information can be found here .
