Westfield Principal Kristen Ulery

Westfield families:

We had a busy week with Grandtoberfest and the book fair. I loved meeting so many grandparents!

It was great to see so many people at the Halloween parade today! After several years of cold, rain, and snow, today's weather was a nice change. Thank you to the PTC room parents and all of the parent volunteers who helped with today's Halloween parties. The kids had a great time!

Don't forget there is no school on Monday or Tuesday. We will see you back on Wednesday, November 4, which is also picture retake day.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Kristen Ulery

Westfield Principal

Reminder: No school November 2-3

Picture Retake Day is November 4

Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, November 4. If your student needs a retake, please send their envelope of photos with them to school on picture retake day and ask them to give the photo envelope to their classroom teacher. They will be called down for a retake sometime that morning.

Encourage your student to check the school’s lost and found

Looking for a missing coat? Searching for a lost water bottle? As the weather turns cooler and students are bringing jackets to school, it’s a great time to remind them to look through the school’s lost-and-found if they are missing an item. We ask families to label student items with a last name or initials so we can return anything that has gotten lost.

Character Strong assembly for responsibility

Today we had our October Character Strong assembly to recognize students from each class who have been exceptional examples of responsibility. The students received a certificate and had their picture taken. We also watched a video made by Mrs. Goushas's class introducing the concept of gratitude, which will be students' SEL learning theme for November. You can watch the fifth graders' gratitude video at this link: https://youtu.be/CVnl4hEMSCE

Resources for helping your child through difficult times

Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis

Students, families can report crises and threats through Safe2Help

Students and families can confidentially call, email, or text the Safe2Help tip line to report bullying, threats, or classmates in crisis. Students or families can call (844) 4-SAFE-IL, (which is 844-472-3345); text SAFE2 (which is 72332); email Help@Safe2HelpIL.com; or submit tips through the online form. Safe2Help submissions are monitored every hour of every day. More info: https://bit.ly/3BPxObO

Need tech support for your student's school computer?

Families that need support for iPad or Chromebook issues should use the district’s online help system. Enter your contact information and some details about the problem at: https://bit.ly/89techsupport
