WISE Words #2
October 2025
WISE Words: October 2025
A Letter From Our Leadership Team
Dear Rossi Families,
As October comes to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate all the incredible things happening at Anthony Rossi School! This month has been full of learning, laughter, and community spirit from our wonderful Grandparents Luncheon and festive Trunk or Treat, to the first grade field trip to Consalo Farms and the Double Good Popcorn Sale supporting our programs.
Students also enjoyed inspiring assemblies from Yojo and Reggie Dabbs and the Youth Alliance, reminding us all about the power of kindness, perseverance, and making good choices. We’re especially proud to see new opportunities for students through the start of Respect and Rec Club, Garden Club, and the overwhelming enthusiasm shown during Drama Club auditions with a record number of students eager to be part of this year’s production of Shrek Jr.
As we move into November, we want to emphasize how important daily attendance is for our students’ growth and success. Each day matters, and being present helps children learn, connect, and thrive.
We’re grateful for our dedicated staff, supportive families, and amazing students who make Rossi such a special place. Thank you for helping us create a school community full of pride, joy, and opportunity.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Coia, Principal
Mr. Cifaloglio, Assistant Principal
Look Who Got "Caught Being Good" in October!
Meet our Hooties for the 2025–2026 school year
We are excited to announce that our 5th graders Jerry Coker, Milani Machinsky, Paul Coia, and Jason Egbeh will represent our school as our school mascot, Hooty, this year!
These students came out on top with the exact score, and we are so proud of not only their hard work but also the school spirit and creativity shown by everyone who tried out.
A Successful "Help the Hawks" Drive for Safety Patrol
A big thank you for the overwhelming outpour of support from our entire Rossi community as our safety patrol concludes their mission to “Help the Hawks” of Holly Heights Elementary School in Millville. Hundreds of books, STEM activities, and library essentials were donated in an effort to replenish the Holly Heights library which was damaged during a recent structural calamity at the school. A big thanks to Mrs. Pangburn, Mr. Martine, Mrs. Pinizotto for building our donation boxes, safety patrol members, and our entire school community for coming together to help a school in need.
Perfect Attendance Shoutout
Rossi celebrated our students who had perfect attendance for the month of September! These awesome Owls were on time and stayed for the entire school day—every day.
As a reward, they enjoyed a special extra recess to recognize their dedication and commitment.
Each month, students who are on time and stay the whole day will receive a special surprise—so keep showing up and giving your best, Owls!
Classroom Highlights
Mrs. Snitzel and Mrs. Gonzalez's Class "Rock Out" for Kindness
Rossi Roomies Mrs. Snitzel and Ms. Jasmin’s kindergarten and Mrs. Gonzalez’s third grade met to kick off the year together. Students discussed kindness and then paired up with their buddies to create beautiful and inspiring rocks to decorate outside of the school by the car riders door. Everyone had a great time being creative together and getting to know each other. They are excited to continue to meet and make more memories!
Mrs. Petrini’s Class Has S’more Fun with Science!
Mrs. Petrini’s class is learning all about energy transfer! Students learned how solar energy is transferred into thermal energy by making solar ovens. They had the most delicious snack of S’mores after constructing their own solar ovens. The students were amazed at how well the ovens worked, based on their own creativity, and how yummy their snacks were!
Miss Sheppard’s Class Is in Full Swing!
In Miss Sheppard’s class students investigated the patterns of motion exhibited by their little “home made” trapezes. They made observations and took measurements of the motion of their models and used the data to predict the motion of a real trapeze.
Ms. Schallus and Mrs. Nash Brew Up Fall Fun!
Ms. Schallus’ and Mrs. Nash’s Room Buddies had a fun-filled fall activity! After reading How to Catch a Witch, students teamed up to design their own pumpkins and share their creativity. It was a great afternoon of learning, laughter, and teamwork!
Mrs. Petrini’s Class Has a Full Fall Day of Fun!
It was a busy and exciting day in Mrs. Petrini’s class! Mrs. Valerie DeTetta visited to raise awareness about Dwarfism and shared an important message about kindness and acceptance. Later, Mrs. Bermudez stopped by to guide students through a festive fall craft and read a fun story about a silly squirrel. Students loved the hands-on activities and meaningful lessons that made the day both creative and memorable.
Mr. Martine's Class Brings Learning to New Heights!
Students in Mr. Martine’s Gifted and Talented classes put their creativity and collaboration skills to the test as they worked in teams to design and build towers. Using limited materials, students brainstormed, problem solved, and experimented with different engineering strategies to create the tallest and strongest structures possible. The activity encouraged teamwork, communication, and innovative thinking, skills that engineers and inventors use every day. Mr. Martine’s students showed that when imagination meets collaboration, the results can really reach new heights!
A "Grand" Event at Rossi
Rossi School had a wonderful week celebrating Grandparents Day with the amazing “Grands” in our students’ lives. Smiles, laughter, and special moments filled the building as families shared time together and made lasting memories.
We are so grateful to all the grandparents and special guests who joined us. Your support and presence made the celebration truly meaningful. Many visitors also stopped by the Book Fair, and we appreciate every purchase that helps put more books in students’ hands and supports our school library.
We are especially grateful to Mrs. Pangburn, our dedicated librarian, for coordinating the event and making it such a memorable week for our students and families. Her hard work and enthusiasm brought everything together, and we truly could not have done it without her.
It was a joyful week for everyone, and we are already looking forward to welcoming our Grands back next year!
Rossi Owls Kick Off WISE Assembly With Special Guest
Rossi Owls gathered together on October 3rd to hear some WISE words about the character traits of communication and honesty from Vineland High School assistant principal Mr. Jamaal Hall during our monthly WISE Assembly. Students were honored for the character trait of responsibility and received their very first WISE shirts of the year.
We also honored our first “WISE Guy” of the year, none other than Mrs. Elizabeth Petrini! Mrs. Petrini takes the time and makes the effort to set up and oversee our incredible assemblies each and every month. Her responsibility is evident in everything she does and we are lucky to have her.
WISE stands for “We Inspire Someone Everyday” and is grounded in the district’s Portrait of A Graduate initiative and aims to encourage students to make good choices, model citizenship, and to take pride in daily acts of kindness. Great job to all of our “WISE Winners” this month!
Rossi Owls Rock Out for Communication and Honesty!
Our Rossi Owls rocked out yesterday while celebrating Communication and Honesty—two of our Portrait of a Graduate competencies and part of our We Inspire Someone Every Day (WISE) initiative!
Students came dressed in their best rockstar gear and brought incredible energy, teamwork, and positive spirit to the day.
Way to go, Owls! Keep shining, speaking up, and showing your honesty loud and proud!
First Graders Harvest Fun at Consalo Farms!
Our first graders had an amazing day at Consalo Family Farms! Students learned about the growing process, explored fresh vegetables straight from the fields, enjoyed a hayride, and picked and decorated their own pumpkins. They also shared a delicious pizza lunch before heading home with seeds to plant and a special shirt and bag to remember the day.
A big thank-you to the Consalo Family for welcoming our Rossi Owls and providing such a wonderful hands-on learning experience!
Sportsmanship Shines in Respect and Rec Club!
Rossi’s Respect and Rec Club kicked off with an incredible start for all grade levels! Mr. Martine and Mr. Traina transformed into referees of respect as they guided students through fun, character-building activities focused on sportsmanship, teamwork, and being a good teammate.
Our K–2 students learned about showing respect on and off the field and then put their skills to the test in an exciting game of “Haunted House.” Special thanks to our fifth grade volunteers and Ms. Damaris for helping make the session a success!
The following week, more than 50 third through fifth graders joined in for their turn on the field, practicing football throwing skills and route running while demonstrating teamwork, encouragement, and positive energy.
The Respect and Rec Club is all about building character, confidence, and community—one game at a time!
Rossi Trunk-Or-Treat
What an amazing night at our Rossi Trunk or Treat! Our staff and families went all out with their creative trunks, making it a fun and festive evening for everyone. The parking lot was filled with laughter, costumes, and plenty of Halloween spirit as our Rossi community came together to celebrate.
A big thank-you to all the volunteers who helped make the event such a success, and a special shout-out to PQ Mobile Unit for providing a delicious dinner for everyone to enjoy. It was a spooktacular night to remember!
