Message from the Principal

As we move deeper into the school year, we want to take a moment to highlight an essential truth: every child plays an active role in their own learning. At Pine Avenue, our staff is part of each student’s team — guiding, encouraging, and supporting — but success also grows from the habits and responsibilities students build each day. Elementary school is where students begin practicing the skills that will carry them into middle and high school, and eventually into their future workplaces and communities.

In the classroom, students learn to take responsibility for their materials, follow routines, ask questions, and work collaboratively with peers. These habits may seem small, but they form the foundation for the independence required in secondary education, where students manage multiple classes, navigate more complex schedules, and advocate for themselves academically and socially. When students understand their role in the learning process, they build confidence and a sense of ownership that will serve them well for years to come.

Daily attendance is another key part of a student’s role. Consistent attendance helps children build academic stamina, stay connected to classroom routines, and maintain continuity in their learning. Regular participation now prepares students for middle and high school, where coursework moves quickly and daily engagement is essential. Families play an important part in this, too — reinforcing routines at home and helping students arrive ready to learn each day.

Finally, communication is a shared responsibility between school and home. When families review planners or folders, talk with their child about what they learned, and reach out with questions, students see that education is a team effort. This partnership strengthens the skills and habits we are building at school and helps students understand that they have an important part to play in their own success.

Together, we can help every student catch up, keep up, and move up.

Pine Avenue Highlights Pine Avenue Highlights

Pine Avenue students are thinking, collaborating, and taking an active role in their learning! Students have been researching natural disasters, sharing what they discovered, and working together to build their understanding. In math, they are using a variety of strategies to solve problems, explain their thinking, and learn from one another. Our fourth graders also extended their science learning through the Science Blow-out field trip at Alma College. Across our classrooms, students are asking questions, contributing ideas, and driving their learning through active participation. We are proud to see our students growing as curious learners and confident problem-solvers!
