Home ScoopOctober 26, 2026

Dear Skokie Families,

You will notice that this week's Home Scoop is lighter than usual. Our school community is mourning the loss of Ms. Wild, and we are taking time to care for one another.

Please remind your children that there are lots of adults available to support them at school if you think it would be helpful to speak with someone about how they are feeling. Our staff is here for them, and no question or feeling is too small to share.

We are here for you, too. If your family needs any support, please reach out to either of us.

Sincerely,

Michelle & Emily

This week, our Lighthouse Moment honors the memory of Ms. Gina Wild, who taught in our district for 26 years and gave the Skokie staff and school community a light that will stay with us. Ms. Wild was a positive force of energy who brought warmth and joy into every space she entered. She built relationships that made students, families, and colleagues feel truly seen and valued. She worked alongside her teammates generously and believed we were always stronger together. She met every person with empathy, patience, and care, knowing that each story mattered. As a learning designer, she created experiences that sparked curiosity and helped every student grow. Through more than two decades of change in education, she stayed adaptable and open to new ideas while never losing sight of what mattered most: our students. Above all, Ms. Wild was an advocate for all, standing up for every learner and making sure each one had what they needed to thrive. Her legacy lives on in the students she inspired, the colleagues she uplifted, and the community she helped shape. We are deeply grateful for the gift of her time with us, and we will carry her light forward together.

Halloween Celebrations

We are looking forward to our Halloween celebrations on Friday, Oct. 30. Thank you to our room parents for planning and coordinating the celebrations. As a reminder, all photos should be taken using Skokie iPads. They will be shared with the Memory Book committee for the 26-27 Memory Book! Below is some guidance if your child decides to dress up on Friday, Oct. 30th.

Please make sure that your child adheres to the following guidelines:

  • Students may not wear a mask with their costumes.

  • All costumes should reflect good taste and common sense. Nothing deemed inappropriate by our regular dress code will be allowed.

  • Weapons of any nature are not allowed. This includes toy guns, knives, sticks, swords, etc.

  • Students who plan to change into costumes should wear clothing to school that allows them to easily put their costumes on over their clothes in the classroom. To minimize congestion, full costume changes in the restrooms will not be permitted.

October Dimension of Belonging: Invited October Dimension of Belonging: Invited

Being Invited means knowing your presence is wanted, valued, and missed when you are not present.

As our school community works through a loss, this part of belonging matters more than ever. Grief can make anyone feel alone, children and adults alike, but no one should carry heavy moments by themselves. We encourage you to invite your child into conversation. You can sit together quietly, ask how they're feeling, let them cry, or share a happy memory. Our staff is here to support your family too, so please reach out if your child needs extra care.

Thank you for being part of a community that makes room for each other with care and grace.
