March 2026
From the desk of Dr. Frank
Happy March, Byrd Families!
We have had so many reasons to celebrate in the last month!
Congratulations to our Destination Imagination teams and our Name That Book teams. All of these teams did an amazing job representing Byrd. Our Read-A-Thon fundraiser is off to a great start! We will be using the funds raised to start a school garden at Byrd. Thank you for your continued support of Byrd. We are a strong school because of fantastic families, students, and staff. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Ollie Mae Byrd Day! Mrs. Byrd was so happy to see all of the Bobcats dressed in purple! I hope that you were able to see our Bobcats for Go Texan Day. I know I am a little biased, but they are the cutest cowboys and cowgirls I have ever seen two-stepping! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Love, Dr. Amy Frank

Let’s make this year another incredible success!
Multicultural night is quickly approaching (March 24). Multicultural night is an opportunity to share your heritage with the families of Byrd Elementary. If you are willing to host a booth (with a craft or food to share) or perform, please sign up!
Byrd Reading March Madness Let’s get ready to Reeeeaaaadddd!
March is known for madness in basketball, but let’s add a little fun and throw in some reading. I have 16 picture books for our Byrd Bobcats to read and enjoy. All 16 books have a 2024 or 2025 copyright date. There’s a “thing” around called #bookaday and lots of educators try to share books each day with students (of all ages). Picture books are clearly easier to share each day, so the books are books for all!
Here’s the drill:
Read the books (as a class, individually, whatever!). I have one copy of each in the library, so that’s hard to share. To help that, I’ve read each book and recorded it on WeVideo, so you can just press play and let me read.
Here’s a slide deck with the books being read. CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK.
Then click on the book cover and press play!
***I will add this presentation to the library schoology page- don't forget the VOTING BALLOT

- Lunch visitors will be allowed on Wednesdays and Fridays of each week.
- There will be a maximum of 12 visitors per grade level (PK–5) each day.
- Please sign up for only one slot per child per month so that all families have an opportunity.

Car Rider Reminders
We have many before-school activities, so we need to keep one car rider lane open in the mornings. Please don't park in the far-right lane until 7:40 am (closest to the building). Also, no one should be walking across the car rider line when cars are moving. If your student walks by themselves, please remind them not to cross when cars are moving. To ensure the safety of our students, please refrain from using cell phones in the car rider lines.
Thank you for your support.
Keeping Sick Children at Home
A sick child who is unable to participate in school in a meaningful way should be kept home to rest and recover until symptoms resolve.
Keeping a sick child home also protects other children, school staff, and visiting community members from contracting an illness that can be spread from person to person.
Please be aware of the following guidelines for school attendance.
· Fever: A child must remain home with fever equal to or > 100° F and may only return after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
· Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting must stay at home and may return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
· Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Following a diagnosis of pink eye, a child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication has been administered.
· Rashes: Common infectious diseases with rashes are most contagious in the early stages. A child with a suspicious rash must stay at home and may return to school after a health care provider has made a diagnosis and authorizes the child's return to school in writing or symptoms have resolved completely.
· Head lice (pediculosis): Students who have an active case of live lice may attend school only after treatment which eliminates all live lice. Head lice do not jump or fly and are most commonly contracted by head-to-head touch. Head lice are common in school-aged children, so parents should routinely monitor children for live lice and teach the avoidance of behaviors that spread lice.
If you take your child to a healthcare provider for an evaluation of illness or injury, please be sure to request a written letter stating when your child may return to school and any accommodations required upon his/her return.
A healthy school community requires parents and schools to partner with each other. To prevent/minimize local outbreaks of contagious disease, parents must keep children who have an illness that can be spread from person to person at home, and CFISD school nurses will exclude students with symptoms of a communicable illness from school attendance.
