Principal's Update
Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all
As we prepare for the end of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our leaving Year 6 learners all the best for the next stage in their schooling. They are prepared for the new challenges and opportunities that await them at Intermediate, and we look forward to hearing of their successes and achievements in the future.
Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui
Be strong, be brave, be steadfast
Thank you to our parents and supporters of Tauranga Primary School. We are continually striving to provide the very best education we can for your children and appreciate your support and partnership in this endeavour.
Year 6 parents, I want to especially thank you for trusting us with your children throughout their primary schooling. For some this will mark the end of your close association with TPS, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you well and thank you for your contributions and support over many years.
Lastly, thank you to the teaching team, support staff, Friends of the School and School Board, you truly are a remarkable group of people who have contributed so much to make TPS a wonderful place to learn and grow in. I appreciate and value your support and look forward to an exciting 2026.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone.
Ngā mihi o te kirihimete me te tau hou hari.

Year 6 Leavers Assembly
The TPS Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly will be on Monday 15th December, 6:00 - 7:30pm at Holy Trinity Church (215 Devonport Road). This assembly is only for our year 6 students and their families.
Hosting Opportunity -German Student Teacher – Expressions of Interest Term 2 2026
Next year, Tauranga Primary School will welcome Michelle, a German student teacher completing a voluntary internship with us for Term 2 (20 April – 3 July 2026). Michelle is fluent in English, has previously travelled and worked in Australia, and will finish her Bachelor of Education at the end of this year. She is eager to strengthen her English skills and learn about a different education system before returning to Germany to begin her Master’s degree.
We are looking for a TPS whānau who may be interested in providing a boarding arrangement for Michelle during her time in Tauranga. This could be a full-term arrangement or a shared option between two families. A university flat or similar setup may also work well, as long as it provides a safe and welcoming environment. Michelle is able to pay a reasonable boarding fee.
If you would like to register your interest, please contact Fiona Hawes (principal@tauranga.school.nz) directly. We will also put out a further call for hosts early in the new year to confirm arrangements.
Congratulations to our 2026 House Leaders

Office Opening Hours January 2026
Our school office will be open on 2nd and 3rd February from 9:00am - 3:00pm for the purchase of school uniforms and payment of stationery accounts.
Stationery 2026
As TPS is part of the government’s school donation scheme, to start the 2026 school year, the only costs that we request from families are for student stationery and year 4 camp.
Stationery can be purchased from the school and all your child’s stationery needs for the year will be provided directly to the classroom.
The cost of this will be entered on to each student’s School Shop account in early January 2026. Please log on to your account and pay for this before the start of the school year.
To create a School Shop account, follow this link https://www.tauranga.school.nz/school-shop?art=6073
We have negotiated excellent prices for these stationery supplies and the 2026 costs are as follows:
- Year 1 and New Entrants $43.50
- Year 2 $34.00
- Year 3 and 4 $49.00
- Year 5 and 6 $49.00
Bookbags are included in the Year 1 and New Entrant packs above and can be purchased separately for Years 2 – 6 from the school office ($3.00)
