Dear Del Valle Students and Families,
I hope you have had an amazing summer and ready to return back to school! I am delighted to take this opportunity to welcome you back to school and introduce myself as the new principal of Del Valle High School! I am thrilled to be returning to the OFOD community where the dedicated staff and a long standing tradition of excellence make Del Valle High School a great place for students to learn and grow.
Allow me to share a bit about myself. My name is Valerie Hairston and I bring with me 19 years of experience in education, with a strong passion for high levels of learning for all students, meaningful relationships, and safe, supportive learning environments.
My educational journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Masters of Education Leadership from Lamar University. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in various educational roles. I spent nine of the first ten years of my career as a Biology Teacher, Cross Country and Track Coach, and Program Coordinator at Del Valle High School. I have also served as an Assistant Principal at El Dorado High School and most recently as the Principal of Hernando Middle School. Each of these experiences have provided me with valuable insights into the diverse needs of students, parents, and educators.
At Del Valle High School, my goal is to build upon and continue the existing culture of excellence and achievement, and to work collaboratively with our exceptional staff to provide an enriching educational experience for all students. I believe in cultivating strong student relationships and maximizing student learning opportunities. Our goal is to graduate 100% of students prepared to pursue their post-secondary goals.
I firmly believe that communication and collaboration are essential to student success, and I encourage families to actively engage in their child’s education and participate in the rich traditions at Del Valle High School. Throughout the school year, you can expect regular updates on important events, academic achievements, and extracurriculars through newsletters, emails, and updates on our school website (https://www.yisd.net/Page/7543). I also encourage you to attend school activities and functions, as your involvement is vital to the success of our students.
