Magical and Snow-Covered Days Ahead Magical and Snow-Covered Days Ahead

Dear FES Families,

Even with the snow day and delayed opening this past week, students have enjoyed playing basketball and other activities at school. They arrived on Wednesday ready to dive into snow-covered hills, digging deep with shovels and mittens to build a variety of snow creations. Their energy and fearless approach to the cold is always surprising, as they run across the playground in heavy snow pants with some ready to rid their human coat for a t-shirt and shorts! We appreciate the families efforts ensuring child(ren) come to school with their appropriate clothing for the cold temperatures and snow.

A reminder to all that when the temperatures are below 10 degrees including a wind chill, that students participate in indoor recess upon arrival and after lunch. Additionally, the school has only a few extra pairs of gloves, mittens, boots and snow pants to spare for emergencies so students that can remember to bring them are ready for whatever comes our way!

Please check your child's home to school folder for Trimester 1 report cards which went out today, 12/5. Our students have all been working very hard since the beginning of school and we are so very proud of them!

Enjoy a warm and cozy weekend!

~Kathie

Wellness with Mr. LeGraw

In PE this week, students worked hard on their fitness! Our 3rd and 4th graders completed the PACER test, while younger students took part in a similar endurance challenge. We also focused on body-strengthening activities and ended the week with some fun in our new gaga ball pit!

Ms. Flanagan's Amazing K-1 Students!

In K/1, we have begun learning about maps and where we live. Our focus will also be on the animals of each region and/or continent. Students will pick an animal to write about. This will tie into our Informational Writing Unit. Students will be making books!

Mrs. Morrocco's Grade 1-2 Classroom

Our Grade 1-2 student classroom will be increasing by another second grader this coming week and we are all very excited! We will now be lucky 13! The class has created a student leader role where we choose a student to be the new student's mentor and helper. This person's job will be to spend the first day welcoming the new student and showing him/her the daily jobs and how we do our "learning zone' work. Of course, the whole class will make themselves available to support and encourage our new FES Lion. Welcome Wesley!

In literacy work this week, we started some new routines and created daily work folders to track our reading fluency progress and word work improvement. This coming week, we will partner with our team peers to review proper handwriting, the writing process and deepen our knowledge of how to locate evidence in text to support comprehension skills. Ask you child about "Ketchup day"! Each student should have fun sharing this story with you!

In math, we have been working on increasing our independent learning levels on our math program called Happy Numbers, as well as practicing math fact fluency in both grades. It's wonderful to witness so many students interested and engaged in math!
