Class of 2027 Parents and Students,

We want to inform you of changes to release/off periods for the 2026-2027 school year. As we champion every student's journey to excellence, we recognize the importance of maintaining flexibility so students can balance school time with other activities. Prosper ISD equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to thrive in college, career, military, and life in an ever-changing world. With that in mind, we evaluated our standards for release/off periods. We made adjustments in eligibility that will be implemented for the 2026-27 school year as part of our commitment to providing a challenging yet nurturing learning environment that empowers every child to excel based on their unique strengths and needs.

Seniors may be eligible for one release period if they meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Credit Requirement: Have earned the required number of credits to be on track to graduate on time, and
  • Attendance: Cannot have been sent to Truancy Tribunal in previous year, and
  • Enrolled in course(s) and takes test for college readiness (if applicable) which allows me to potentially earn CCMR (AP, College Prep, or Dual Credit);

Seniors may be eligible for two release periods if they meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Attendance: Cannot have been sent to Truancy Tribunal in previous year, and

IMPORTANT NOTE

If a student’s eligibility status changes during the 26-27 school year (attendance, discipline, courses enrolled in for CCMR, or credit deficiency), the release period may be removed for the remainder of the school year. Students must be present at school and maintain attendance in accordance with state guidelines and district expectations (TEC § 25.085).

Special Education Students

For students receiving Special Education services, eligibility for an off period will be determined in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) and decided upon during their Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meeting.
